Trailer Battery Feed Fuse

On my 2006 Silverado, there was a wire that had to be connected to the under-hood fuse box before I could run lights in a covered trailer. I had already plugged in a Reese trailer brake and it worked fine. I took it to the dealership and told them what was happening and they told me about the wire and hooked it up in no time and didn't charge me.

When I bought my 2012, we went back to the service department and I ask him about hooking up that wire. He said it wasn't necessary with the new models.

My 2001 GMC Yukon XL slt Trailer 12v power fuse was the 40 amp I marked in the photo I verified it with a test meter, everything else was working until I put this fuse in, before my Trailer Battery was not getting charged by the Yukon while in tow, this is not my photo but the box is identical and the lid says a 40 amp is supposed to be used on my SUV.

Great thread! I found it while searching for the same problem on my 03 suburban.

However, putting a fuse in the Stud #1 slot doesn't offer any power at the stud. Furthermore, I measured the voltage at the connectors where the fuse plugs in, and there is no power flowing to the fuse.

Is there another step for this year or model? All signs point to this being the same, but there appears to be something different.

The trailer connections changed on 2003 Yukons and suburbans midway through the year. I found this out when the pigtail for the brake controller didn't work, had to get a different one from prodigy.

GM changed the pins in the place you plug the pigtail in.
