K&n Vs. Factory

IS it worth getting a cold air intake from k&n? asking because somewhere i thought i read with the 07 silverados they come with a stock cold air intake and getting k&n wont do much at all

All the GM cars/trucks I've owned have all technically had a "CAI," in that they pull in cold air (depending on air temps of course) from outside the vehicle, rather than the engine bay. The aftermarket CAI Intake kits may just allow them to pull in more air by reducing restriction in the tubing or airbox. Good for a couple HP and a nice sound. And some of them look pretty darn cool as well.

I'm sure the K&N kit would work, but I would personally look for a fully enclosed box that would block heat from the engine bay rather being open like some of the K&N kits I've seen.

The GMPP box is a fully enclosed unit, nice chrome top, and a straightened intake path. It also uses a dry flow filter, the K&N filter will gum up your MAF sensor and TB.

LOL.... these threads never stop.

K&N versus Dry/Paper: Only solution is to go outside and wail on each other for a while. The winner's opinion is the right one, at least for the day.

Synthetic verus Dino: See above

GM verus Chevy: See above

But anyway for the OP. Check out this thread (has pictures)

Dry is definitely less maintenance intensive for your truck...I know first hand, my MAF and TB are coated with black goo from the over oiled K&N the previous owner had in the truck. Which reminds me, I have to clean both at some point in time.

As for which one is better in a performance sense...who knows. Who really cares, if your grasping at 1-2 hp you have other issues.

We need to have a 'sticky Topic' that stays at the top of the section for good, with all the info on the common mods people ask about. IE cold air intakes like Outlaw, Volant, K&N, programmers like Edge and Diablo vs Tuned PCM vs dyno vs HP tuners, Cat backs like Flowmaster, Borla, Corsa, Gibson ect. If I get the OK from a Moderator I'll type up a book on all these and put it up and it will stay up at the top (hints sticky) so we dont get repeated topics.
