Well..... the misses and I were off yesterday and hanging out with a buddy of ours.... I was flipping through an AutoTrader - Classic Car addition and we came across a car we both wanted.... Well, first a little background, a fews months ago we saw a 50's Ford pick up but it was a stake bed, we both knew at that point we wanted a pick up with a stake bed someday. Well, we were bored yesterday and figured we might as well go check this truck out, it had a decent price and it looked (and sounded) to be in good shape. So we went done to Vista, CA (about 50 mins from my house) and took a look at this truck. The guy that had it, had owned it for about 17 years so far and thought to be the 3rd owner. He was moving and his wife (who absolutely loved this truck) had past away 5 years ago, so he figured it was time to move on and wanted to see it go to a good home. Well, after a long time (about 2 hours) of chatting with the guy and test driving it, it was a done deal. It has 4:56 gears so for the hour drive (freeway) home we had it flat bed towed. It is a 1950 GMC 150 with a 228 c.i. striaght 6 and 4 on the floor. It has 62,500 original miles and besides the paint, wood bed, and the typical wear and tear items it is all original. It starts on first crake of the floor starter and spins smoothly. The only thing it absolutely needs is new tires, but we want to go down to lower gears, like 2:90 perhaps to allow for some freeway travel (short distances), it can go to about 45-50 mph now, put spins too high for my liking. Other than that we wnat to enjoy it and maintain it's originality. How often do you see a 50's GMC (not Chevy) and on top of that how often do you find one with a stake bed. Well, I will keep everyone up on the slight refurb on the '50 GMC, let me know what you think. Also, what would you say is a good price for this truck (I feel that I got a deal of a life time on this thing)? Thanks. :puke:

Thanks everyone for the kind words. It is very clean, only one spot of actual "cancer" it rusted through near the drip pipe on the drivers side front strip (after teh fender, before the door) a known problem and I have already located where to get a patch panel for this known problem. It cool having a 1950 GMC and a 2006 GMC, I actually enjoy the 1950 more, it is a true experience, gotta learn to read the lights to make sure the manual brakes have time to stop the tank. I have already driven it about 50 miles in the past 48 hours, and not one problem. i fixed some lights and topped off all teh fluids, there is a small leak in the tranny (bad seal) which is an easy fix and a pretty good size leak in the diff, the seal is completely shot, so since I am already needing to swap out the gears I can fix that at the same time. Well, this next week end is going to entale fixing the temp gauge (bought a whole new one) new overlays for the other old tach's (GM only made Chevrolet tach's then they made overlays to change certain tachs (like the temp and speedo), then I am flusing the cooling system, changing the oil, and looking to fix the door and window cranks (the passanger side is tough to roll up the window). I will keep you up to date. Thanks again!

What a beautiful truck!!! That's what I want to get someday, with a nice straight 6, as they run forever. They are pretty easy to work on too, just in case you have any problems. Right now, I have a 1970 Buick GS Stage 1 sitting in my garage in pieces. I got started on it and didn't realize how much time and $$ it would be, so it's getting there slowly but surely.

My grandfather in Kentucky had a truck very similar to yours, but I think it was a Chevy. Seeing yours brings back some very good memories of riding around with him through the hills and hollers where they had their farm. Ahhh, those were the days. :)

Take care,

Scott

Hello everyone! Sorry, it has been awhile since I posted anything on this forum in general. Her is a quick update, the Saturday after I bought the truck I was on the way to a car show and a wire grounded itself on the dash and had a small fire (more smoke than anything), we I ripped out ALL the electrical even the taillights and everything, went to "The Truck Shop" here in Orange, Ca and got a new harness, come to find out once i had the new harness 90% installed that the harness was a Chevy (I was told it was a GMC) and I started having some major issues. needless to say I got a full refund, but then I was on the hund for a GMC harness, well, I found out they are rare and when I did find them they were hand built after you order it. Well, I lucked out and was able to get one built in one month. I got it last Thursday and I spent the last weekend installing it. Durning the install my wife was revarnishing the stakes (which I sanded while waiting for the harness). So I need to post some new pics. I ended up needing 3 stitches from the electrical install (craked my head on the differential. Good times, it is up and running and I am still enjoying it! My wife just bough a bail of hay, made an old looking crate and painted it with logs then bought some pumkins (fall time for the car show)!!!! Late!
