Need Help Picking Cam

Recommended Posts

There are a bunch of good tuners out there. I know LG Motorsports is based in Texas and they have some hot LS1/LS6/L92 cams which all fit the 5.3/6.0 motors. Talk to a tuner, tell them your goals (towing, hp, tq, etc) and they can recommend a cam. My 5.7l LS1 has a 228/232 .588/.590 112+4 cam which has a slightly lumpy idle and big hp/tq gains throughout the powerband. Lots of people recommend the TR224 cam for all around performance increases with simple tuning and a good idle with an automatic tranny. You'll want new valvesprings with the cam since the new one should have a lot more lift than stock. The high revving LS1/LS6's also usually do titanium retainers to reduce the mass and increase strength/durability. Lastly, if you go with a big lift cam, get upgraded hardened pushrods and possibly even some LS7 lifters (cheap upgrade at GM parts house - Gene Culley).
