Wait4me Tune For 3.42 Gear Ratio

700cc

Recommended Posts

I have a 2006 Z71 with the 5.3L 310hp V8 with the pitiful 3.42 gear ratio. I am planning on ordering a Wait4Me tune, but have a few questions:

1. Is it worth the money (will it really increase performance from this useless gear ratio)?

2. What should I ask for?

3. Can I install myself?

Thanks,

Scott

Scott the installation of a PCM is so easy, a caveman could do it

No really, its a very simple install. For $158.10 shipped its a very good deal, and in my opinion the best bang for the buck modification.

Just ask for whatever you want out of it. If you want more power say you want the most power from whichever octane you run. You should pick up better gas mileage also. Shifting is also the way it should be from the factory, much firmer and quicker.

Wait4Me CAN help performance. Mine improved .43 seconds to 60 MPH when measured with a G-Tech. My belief is that most of that comes from quicker, higher RPM shifts (it now shifts at ~5600 at WOT). Still checking on mileage.

As long as you are running factory size tires you will be ok.. I tuned one with 3.42's and 285's and it was a pig.. nothing I did really helped.. One of the best trucks ive tuned is a truck like yours with the l33 and 4.10 gears.. that thing hauled ass afterwards..

I do in fact have 285s. So nothing I do will improve performance?

Gears are an easy swap, they're relatively cheep too...but it will kill your GPM....But if you want to be quicker, it comes at a cost.

Buy a set of 4.10's and be done with it....or if you really want to jump and run a set of 4.56's

Average price is around 300 or less. Well wort it IMO...I'm changing mine when I finish paying the truck off. (Gives me more money to play)

He'd have to change TWO sets of gears (4x4). That gets pricey fast. He'd be lucky to get out the door for $1500 paying somebody to do the swap.

2wd...The easiest way is to just go down to your local salvage yard and buy the entire rear end from the hubs to the springs. You could swap the whole thing out in a couple of hours with simple hand tools instead of messing with special tools, lash, etc.

Whoa, that must be a dog.

Unfortunately yes, there's not much you can do. With those big tires, you need to swap your gears, no getting around it.

You know...at 1500 bucks or so...it would be well worth it in a 4X4 to swap to 4.56's. You'd be able to climb almost anything...and you'd really improve your acceleration.

I've got a ecm out of my 05 cc z71 that has a w4m tune on it that i'd like to get rid of. I had the 295hp 5.3 and 3.73's though. You could send it back to him and save a bit of money.

How much?

Shoot me an offer. $80? I dont know. I do know that you'd only be able to use it as a core with someone who does programming. The 2006 ecms are different.
