Pcm Removal

Recommended Posts

Once you remove the plastic cover, carefully remove the two 'rather large' wire harnesses. there is a 6mm bold in the centre of each wire hardness (I think it's a 6mm....if I remember correctly).

Once the wire harnesses are off, the PCM is only held on with a couple of clips at the top.

Removing the PCM will only take a couple of minutes.

This is the PCM Valve right? What does it do and how will removing it help performance?

I think your thinking of the PCV valve. This is the PCM, which is the computer that runs the whole truck. They are talking about sending it in to a custom tune shop, and having it tuned for better performance and mpg.

I doubt your truck would even start without the PCM.

Various places can provide tuning service....wait4me, websters, etc.

I have a wait4me tune and I'm very pleased with it. I opted to get a PCM with the tune so I have the 'factory' PCM in event of any issues (which have been none). Also, no downtime while I was waiting for the tune.

LOL, your truck wont do squat without the PCM installed correctly. The PCM communicates and controlls almost every system on your truck/car, from door chimes to air/fuel mixture.

I recommend you do some careful reading before you start modding. At the very least you'll save a few bucks if you plan your mods carefully. Trust me, I've wasted good $$ before I got it right.

Is there anything that has to be done before starting it the first time with a custom tuned PCM, or do just plug in, start it up and go.

PLug it in and start. It may stall the first time or two and may even have a high idle. It'll calm down quickly.

You will need to get the 'crank relearn' done as soon as possible, even if it doesn't throw a code. Any decent shop will be able to do this for you and it only takes 5 minutes.

Guess now I need to learn what a crank relearn is! haven't heard of that yet.
