Who Makes The Edge Juice Box

Recommended Posts

I don`t have the juice. (because I am still dreaming of an HD with the deisel. But the going rate is from about $675 to over $800 Depending where you buy it. And for the mileage. Most claim an inprovement of 1-2 MPG if your driving habits don`t change. But with 110 rear wheel horse power ( and 250 #ft torque) added to what is already there, How could you drive the same?

Oh to be sure, that power would be great for days when Im feeling a little froggy. But an increase in milage along with it, would be outstanding.

My truck is my all in one vehicle right now, I drive it about 80 miles a day to and from work, haul my dirt bikes with it and hopefully this winter will pull a toy hauler with it. For me the economics are as important as the power. If I really just want to stomp butt and stomp butt only, Ill finish putting my Camaro together.

Actually, the Juice adds a maximum of 90hp (and 250ft lbs), but you can choose from 3 additional power levels (30hp, 45hp, and 60hp) with corresponding torque bumps. The beauty of the set-up is that you can program separate levels for both regular and tow/haul modes with the awesome Allison tranny. For a long time, I drove at level 2 regular and level 1 tow/haul, but I now drive every day at level 4 regular and level 2 tow/haul. Let me tell ya, level 4 is ADDICTIVE! ;)

SilentBob: I have noticed an increase in MPG with the Juice box; I'd say an additional 1-1.5 mpg overall (though I have no hard numbers to prove it). In addition, there is that direct correlation between MPG and "heaviness of foot" (which I personally suffer from...). The increase in HP obviously helps shove this 7000lb truck around!

As far as the unit cost, I paid $799 back two months ago when the system was fairly new to the market. I feel pretty sure that the price may drop some as the market saturates, but you must also take into consideration the old "service after the sale" adage...you do get what you pay for in that department!

Sorry I'd want to see some before and after dyno's from some private owners.  Tough for me to believe anything anymore.

Hey ScaryGuy:

What I failed to mention was that the claims of up to 90hp were intentionally conservative. Independent owner dyno results revealed a higher number (97hp comes to mind, though I don't have the hard numbers in front of me). You can find confirmation of this on thedieselpage.com, a forum for GM diesel enthusiasts.

While I have not yet "dynoed" my own truck, I can tell you firsthand that this 7000 lb truck can and has outrun a healthy 5.0 liter Mustang GT weighing half as much...just happened today, as a matter of fact (the 'Stang driver is a friend of mine who shall NEVER live this down, I promise!))

Needless to say, he was mighty impressed...

I do understand your skepticism regarding the performance claims made about this system, I was there myself not too long ago...but after the first "test drive" with the new box, I was hopelessly hooked!

Question: Do you need an EGT gauge for this mod?

I know that this is supposed to be a 10 minute thing install and supremely easy, but does anyone know what it does to EGTs? Id hate to blow anything up because I was running around in level 4 in 115 degree Phoenix heat.

Hey there, pullinpower!

Well, all I can say is, better get your checkbook ready, 'cuz da Juice bug's gonna bite you square on the keester tonight!

I agree with plastic's analogy...truck feels like an old tired 6.2

without the box....well, that's stretching it a bit...but yes, you will feel a definate difference with that miraculous little black box attached!

Happy a-hauling!

SilentBob:....so where's Jay?

Sorry, couldn't resist...Clerks is on my top ten list of all-time faves...

Gauges: Yes, it is strongly recommended that you utilize a pyrometer when running the Juice, since EGT's are indeed increased, especially at level 4. I had a pyro and boost gauge installed a few days prior to Juice installation just so I could get a feel for just much the EGT's (and boost) would be increased. I did not yet have an unrestrictive exhaust system, as the restrictive stock exhaust further raises EGT's, but have since installed a Banks 4inch system on the truck.

Pre-Juice EGT's at full throttle reached just under 1100 degrees; after juice install temps reached well over 1300 degrees. Boost went from a max of 20psi stock to 28psi with the box at level 4. After installing the 4 inch exhaust, EGT's dropped to a max of 1250, but that was only one run when I really hammered it hard in 99 degree heat with 85% humidity. Sprints will bring it up to around 1050-1100. Highway cruising (75mph) sees only 600-700 degrees now.

There are several guys on another forum that run the box with no mods at all, and have had no problems. But, the general concensus is that at absolute minimum, an EGT should be utilized for engine protection.

SilentBob:

The BD EZ Amp is the same box as the Juice, just marketed under a different name. Both are manufactured by Edge Products, and perform identically. To my knowledge, pricing is also similar...apples to apples.

As far as your question regarding dangerous EGT's, I will defer to more qualified input than my own. If you will do a search on that topic over at www.thedieselpage.com (where the BD EZ Amp write-up originated), you will find many very knowledgeable folks who have addressed that topic in detail. What I can tell you is that temps above 1300 break down engine oil, and I recall reading that coking also occurs, but that issue was debated.

Hope that helps...
