Bug Shield-

Recommended Posts

I want to get a bug shield for my 2500HD.  Who makes one that is contoured to follow the lines of the hood?  I bought the 2500HD over the 1500HD because of the larger front and the hood, so I don't want to cover up the hood contours with a flat across the top bug shield.  I saw a picture of a Lund Trident and it looked like it was contoured but the picture was from a bad angle.  What kind do some of you other HD drivers out there have or suggest?  Thanks

hey kennedycpa:

I had mounted a Lund bugshield on my truck, but had to remove it because the shield affects the airlfow dynamics to such a degree that windshield noise would occur at speeds above 50mph. I've read that basically all bugshields cause this phenomenon on the HD2500 (due to the hood design), although some have had success with the application of silicone sealant to the windshield weatherstripping. I just opted to remove the screen; besides, I ended up putting a Ranch Hand front-end replacement on the truck anyway (now the bugs die a horrible death on that instead!). Hope that helps...maybe some other members have had better luck with other brands.

Happy hunting!

KennedyCPA,  I have the Bugflector II by Deflectashield on my HD...  I bought it at Advance Auto Parts for about $50.

My truck is Pewter and if you look at the pic in my sig you can see it covers up all the pewter on the front of the hood.

I'm running a Lund. As Diva said, they can and do cause wind noise, which is easily fixed by either running a bead of silicone or a strip of double sided tape under the vertical gaskets on each side of the windshield.

I'm using double stick tape on my truck, and it's been there for 21,000 miles, since I had my first windshield put in at 800 miles. The tape has held thru winter, summer, and high pressure car washes. The key to getting a good "stick" is cleanliness. Wipe down the gasket and the windshield with alcohol (not isopropl. use denatured).
