Split the exhaust

Recommended Posts

And now it sounds like a Big Block should.  :D

Before this, I simply put a pair of Magnaflow's on (standing up on side) in place of where the factory "muffler of death" had been and used the stock tail/y-pipe.  This resulted in a lot of interior resonance and left a sputtering sound at WOT which annoyed the living bejesus out of me.

So this holiday weekend, I finished the job and split them.  I went with two 3" pipes out behind each wheel with 3.5" tips.  NOW it sounds awesome, is A LOT louder :D and eliminated that sputtering.  I also think I noticed some fuel economy gain from it (a negligible abount of course).

Here are some pics;

I've got some idle MPG files but they aren't all too exciting.  I need to be driven around in back to get some good accelerating ones.  :D

Are those stainless steel or chrome tips?  My chrome ones are starting to rust around the ends, like I knew they would  :D , but I've had them about 2 years.  I'm thinking about replacing them with some stainless steel tips and routing them like that.  I think it would look better with my B/L.

If they are stainless, about how much did they run you?

Thanks guys, when I get a chance to hang out the bed while she drives, I'll get some good sound clips of it.  :D

They are stainless tips, they were $35 each I think.

And yes, that is a Ram 2500 4x4 with a 5.9L V8.  My neighbor hates me cause I took him for a ride in my truck and he nearly sh*t a 24k brick as his is a slug compared to mine.  :D  But it's definately a step up from the beat up old Ranger he had before and his wife's car is a 2001 Buick Regal (which is in the garage).

Oh yea, it sounds a h*ll of a lot better.  You should see the heads snap around when I get on it.  :D

I was contemplating between straight out the back and out the side like I did.  I wanted it out the sides, but I was concerned about bending the pipe 18 different ways to do it.  Ended up being, if I went straight out the back, I'd have to have them either hang below the receiver/hitch or out on the corners (I've seen another 2500HD like this and it looked like sh*t).
