Picke up new 2500HD, what are my wheel choices?

Recommended Posts

Recently I picked up a new truck - 2002 2500HD CC LT 4x4 in Indiglo Blue.  I've already decided on the basic upgrades  including tenting the front windows, a spray on bed liner, and a snug lid.  I do have some questions about wheel/tire combos though.

What is the largest tire I can run on the stock LT rim?

What are some of the preferred tire/wheel choices?

I realize these must be a popular question and I've seen many people going with BFG 285x75x16 AT KO's tires. What size wheels will they fit or does it have to be a 16"x8"?  Who makes are some good truck wheels that fit this truck?  What kind of offset do they need to have?  Can I go any wider than a 16x8 rim?  At what point do I have to raise the truck?  Sorry for all the questions, and it is good to be here.

Thanks in advance.

Well I can't answer any of your questions, but I'm sure someone will shortly.  Just wanted to be the first to say welcome to GM-Trucks and you sure have a nice truck!  What size engine and options do you have on it?  That looks like the truck I want to get but since I'm still in high school I can't afford it.

Welcome!!!

Joe

Welcome to the forum!!!

I just mounted up some 265's on my HD and they filled up the wheel wells much better than the stock tires.  I think 285's would fit but it may require some Torsion bar cranking, and probably different rims (to be safe) because the stock wheels aren't really wide enough to carry that tire (although alot of people run 285's and claim they have no problems).

Thanks for the response Joe.  I considered the 8.1 until I saw the gas mileage, so I went with the 6.0l and HD 4-speed auto.  If I want more power I'll add a supercharger later down the road.  Besides that it's a fully loaded LT package, and I can't stop staring out it.

Thanks Shaners I appreciate the response.

Tirerack.com has two BFG TA KO's listed.  A 265/70/16 and a 265/75/16.  Which one did you go with?

http://www.tirerack.com/tires....%2FA+KO

It says the 265/70/16 is 30.7" and the 265/75/16 is 37.8"   :0

Godspeed I just started a topic in the HD forum (which I'm sure you've seen by now).  I'll post some better pics tomorrow afternoon if I have time and then you can see what the 265's look like on th HD.

The biggest problem is that when you go up in size, and if you want to keep a good load rating, then your choices become a little more limited.

Nice truck.  Gotta love the blue.

Definitly go with larger tires.  Id suggest the 285s.  I have em on my Z71 (blue) and love em.  CHeck out pics so you can see how they go with blue and the flares
