'97 6.5TD

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I'm going to look at a '97 6.5TD/Auto Extended Cab 2WD.

What should I look for with regard to the 6.5TD.

I recall these motors having issues with the lift pump.

Miles are reported low 76,000.

Any help would be great!

Thanks

Canadian

My uncle is a head mechanic at a huge dealer in ohio. He said that the main thing that he would look into is the Diesel fuel pump... Need to find out if it has been replaced or not cause it has to be done my a certified mechanic for the fuel pump...

I have a 96 K2500 6.5 Diesel with 106,000 miles on it. I have had two injector pumps done in the last 50,000 miles under warranty. I believe GM extended the warranty to 10 years or 110,000 miles. They say high heat will kill the electronic pump mounted driver. You may not have a problem unless you plan on pulling a heavy trailer. In some cases only the pump mounted driver needs to be replaced. As it stands now, I plan on keeping my truck, I like driving it.
