trailer towing mirrors

Recommended Posts

I have the factory camper mirrors and like them but have one complaint. The driver's side mirror is a split mirror with the largest part being a flat mirror and the other being a small convex mirror for your blind spot. It works great. The passenger side does not have the split. It is only a flat mirror so you don't have the blind spot view. I wish they would make the passenger side split also.

I also have a set, ditto the complaint above.  I tried a round stick on, no help.

I wish it wasn't a flat glass mirror.  Should be an "objects in mirror" type.  There's a huge blind spot with them.

I have them on mine. Same complaint about the passenger side blind spot, except the stick on round mirror works great for me. The vertical field of vision is somewhat limited, but I haven't run into any problems with my cabover camper and boat. You might notice it more if you were towing a taller trailer.

My cousin just bought a 2002 2500HD which was sitting on the lot with the standard factory mirrors.  He had them order the factory towing mirrors, and the passenger side has the split mirror set-up.  I believe that if you order those mirrors now, you'll get the same thing.  Good Luck!

If you have the standard power mirrors, might want to wait until the 03's come out so you can see what the new GM towing mirrors are like.  They are supposed to be power adjust, power extend, and heated.  Rumor has it they will even swap in place on the 02 and older HD's.  Probably won't be as good as the Ford towing mirrors, but might be worth the wait.  I'm sure they will be better then the current towing mirrors.....

wait, wait, wait...

Pullinpower you say you have the split convex mirror on the passenger side. Is this something new? I have the split part on my driver side only. IS A SPLIT MIRROR AVAILABLE FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE? I have seen other posts allude to this as well but the dealer tells me NO WAY!

If available - what's the part#?!

Thanks!

I have the factory syle towing mirriors on my truck and they have the passenger side split covex in them also. I like them but wish they had alittle more coverage.

I see your truck is an '01!!!  And you have the split mirrors on both sides???

If you could confirm this, then I'm going to my dealer next week to find out the facts.  I don't like the mirror on the passenger side.  It's big and flat and leaves a blind spot.  The drivers side split mirror is great and I have no problems with it.

If need be, I bet my dealer will sell me one at his cost if I force the issue!!!   :0

I would really like to have that mirror...  :D

I checked at the dealer yesterday about the possibility of buying the split mirror to replace the flat mirror on the passenger side of my truck. Currently, all you can order from service parts is the flat mirror insert (just the mirror, not the whole mirror assembly). If you want the split mirror, you would have to order the whole mirror at a cost of $175. Ouch!  The parts guy guessed they will come out with the split insert soon.

Does anyone have an idea of how you remove the mirror from the housing??? :D

Hey, may be dumb idea, but there are many companies that make replacement mirrors, as in the glass only.  Did any of you contact your local glass dealer and see if they could cut a piece of convex mirror (or concave, whichever is the correct one) and have that glued over the factory mirror?

I bought a set of CIPA extendable electric heated mirrors to replace my factory mirrors (have regular electric heated mirrors) and to be honest, I do not recommend them due to the problems I had with them.

Just my $0.02.

James
