2500HD vs superduty

Recommended Posts

I have always been a GM truck owner, which is why I recently purchased a new 2500HD crewcab. A buddy of mine has a 02 F250SD with a crewcab and a longbed, his truck rides so much better than mine and is alot bigger when parked next to mine. The inside of the F*** cab is so much larger, when I pull up next to his truck, I feel like i'm driving a little rice burner. I never even considered F*** trucks, but after riding in his truck, I'm not so sure. Now, when I see superduty's pass me, I feel like I'm driving a small lesser truck. May the god of GM give me my faith back!

The Super Dutys are quality trucks, I sure wouldn't feel ashamed driving one of them as long as it has the 'Stroke in it.  In terms of performance though, both the HD and SD are pretty close, with the edge going to either one depending on what you are comparing.  With the HDs though, I don't think I'd consider them "rice burners" in size relationship to the SD, they are pretty equal sizewise now.

I will say one thing though, the Ford wins hands down in terms of towing mirrors.   :D

Good points and thanks to the replys. I like my new truck very much and have always been a GM driver, I was just also impressed with the superduty line of trucks witch seems to have clogged my judgement for awhile.

I just slapped myself in the face and feel much better now :D

Crew cab vs crew cab the GM is a much smaller truck, probably by a good 4-5" on cab length.  The GM crew cab is really pretty small compared to the Ford version, definitely noticeable from the inside.  The extended cabs are another story however.  Ford wisely choose to tuck their frame nicely up under the body so it isn't completely visibly which makes the Ford cab quite a bit higher to step into.  Combine that with the larger standard tires, SFA and the SuperDuty will seem like a much larger truck.  They certainly don't ride as bad due to the SFA as people make them out to either.

Slap some decent sized tires on your HD and it will even things up nicely.  The larger tires really make a difference on these HD's.  But my preference would still be to the SuperDuty, even though the interior sucks compared to the GM.

Our  1 ton Superduty sits about 3" taller at the taligate than Sierra/Silv. 2500's that I have measured.  Not bad considering the difference between 3/4 ton and 1 ton Fords.  The 1 tons have 2" over the 3/4 tons.  When sitting in the Ford it is obvious that the Chevy's are a little shorter and I plan to lift mine when I get it.

As far as quality, I have had 3 Fords and have only had problems with the current one which is why I am ordering an '02 GMC.  We have had much better luck so far with the wife's '00 Chevy 1/2 ton than my '00 Ford. Other than a stubborn oil leak, all the repairs have been minor but annoying.  I wouldn't have any heartburn about recomending a Superduty to anyone even though mine seems to be a lemon.  I know many people with Superdutys who have had zero problems.

remember...  cab height doesn't  =  ground clearance.

Wheelbase is always going to be wheelbase...

At this point in time, motors don't compare between the lines...  base up to the diesels..

Looks wise, I am in no means offended by the way a Superduty looks or by it's stance.  It's a good looking truck!!!!

Ergonomically from the drivers point of view, I give GM the edge but it is only slight...  but Ford has some nice touches that GM has overlooked...  (and vica versa)

With 255/85-R16's and my torsion bars jacked 5 turns, when I'm parked next to a SuperDuty, my roof is about equal in height.

The SuperDuty does have a slightly larger cab, not as much as some here imply. Please don't make me get the spec's cause we've been through this before. Most SD CC owners will admit the GM has a nicer interior and a larger rear seating area. The SD has a more spacious front seating area. I can't stand Ford interior design. Vaccum form heaven with bland styling. The SD dash is an eyesore.

I like the SD for it's size also.  But to tell you the truth, for me, it's just about on the edge of overkill, sizewise. My truck is the size I want.
