well guys wanted to let you know that i got rid of my truck bought another dodge. i just could justify adding oil every 900 or so mile and recieving crappy emails from gm. i drive to many miles and paid 32k for a truck that i have to be looking at a light telling me to check oil level. and popping the hood on carring around a gallon of oil in the back. i spend alot of time on the road and it was just a hinderance. i tried to get a dmax but gm wanted me to pay 4-5k to do that. so i back to something i know about.(Dodge w/Cummins).. I hope you guys have great luck with your trucks. :)

So the cost of a new truck was less than a quart or two of oil between changes?

That's what mine burns between oil changes.  Two quarts of Mobil 1 is about $6-7.  A big difference compared to going out and dumping another $35k on a new truck!

Keep in mind, consumption will go down a little as the engine finishes breaking in.  Sounds more to me, like you already had your mind made up against the GM since day one due to a charactor trait of an engine since it's inception way back when!

Have fun with the Mopar.

well it wasnt that i use my truck alot and 1qt to 2 every 900 miles is alot of oil. i gave it an honest try and gm ticked me off too. i have 3 dodges and 4 fords and was trying this rig out and found it under my condition was something i didnt want to do. dont get me wrong other than oil consuption and that knocking noise. the truck was awesome. i wanted a dmax but gm wouldnt work with me on it. so i went to what i know works for me. my hot shot rigs have no problems so im not worried at all. i just wish gm was a bit more supportive of their truck. not everying is normal as they state. the dmax is an awesome rig and maybe when i get one of the other trucks up around 150k i will take one in a get one and try it. thank you guys for all your support. heres what gm had to say::: and a note: i got the area service guy that they said was unable to reach and i have an appointment friday at 9:30 am.

That totally sucks.   I have had problems with my local Chevy dealer (Service Mgr) and had to go through Chevrolets Legal Office to get anything done.

So did you sell your truck, or did GM take it back?

Was it under warranty?

Let us know what happens.

I would most definitely have told them that my progress regarding this matter has been discussed in detail on a CHEVY/GMC forum :D, just to see what they would say :)

Sorry about your problems.  :)

Feel free to stick around and post!!!  Just because you are GM-less doesn't mean you might not have some good tips or valuable info for one of our members.

Good luck with the Dodge (it's too bad you couldn't get a chance to run a Dmax instead).  The Cummins is a proven motor and should perform everything you ask of it... (I just wish it wasn't so noisy) .

thanks guys! i just couldnt deal with it anymore. i hauls so much with my trucks and adding oil was not anything i was willing to do. yea i wish i could have gotten into a dmax i tried dont get me wrong. the gm dealer would only give me 22k for my truck.. i took it to dodge and they gave me 28k with not hassel. i told them what i wanted to get out of it and they did what they had to. and im driving a dodge. like i said i have them already and on the ranch on the road they have proven their loyalty.i like that truck alot. and it was well worth it i just wasnt about to be adding oil and hearing gm tell me"well if you check the oil every fill up like the book says then there should not be a warrenty problem."  (sorry cop out) i bet it would take an act of christ to get something done if i had burnt it up.. i haul on a weekly basis 17-20 1000# bales of hay believe me i worried about running out of oil. the allison is awesome. dodge will have it in thier new trucks with alot quiter set up for next year. i hope so be in a dmax when i get 150k on one of the other trucks but for right now.. im fine.  i will post monday i have a meeting with the gm rep for this region on friday going to share my thoughts with them.. i will let you know how that went. later guys! :)

I still fail to see how the issue of oil consumption caused you such worry.  This is a typical trait of big block V8's made by GM, ford AND Dodge as long as the big three have made them.  Couple that to the fact that your engine was still relatively new and still breaking in, which added to a little bit of consumption.  But otherwise it was a normal trait.  Out of 6.5 quarts of oil, it wasn't as if you were running the well dry and would cause any harm even with your heavy use.  Big Blocks are extremely durable, time tested engines.  Running it a little low on oil isn't going to hurt it!  I'd have hated to see how you'd have flipped out had it leaked any oil on your garage floor (another Big Block trait) :)  Heavens forbid.

I'll live with a little oil consumption to get the power we get from this 8100.  I guess it could be worse, I could have a weaker ford or Dodge V-10 (that still uses oil BTW).

Before my 8100 I owned a Ford SuperDuty with the V10, It used 1qt of oil about every 2000miles, my 8100 used about 1qt the first 2000miles, since then it has not used any oil.  My Ford was a decent truck, but had many front end problems, Ford and my dealer kept giving me the run around, so I eventually traded it in for my GMC.  I have owned many vehicles, and have had a few problem ones, sometimes if a vehicle has a problem that cause that much mental greif it is worth it to just get rid of it.
