Front End diff oil change

Recommended Posts

Guys I have been hearing tales of the oil in our front diffs needs to be changed around 5k and the reports have been that the oil looks like mustard.Going to change mine this afternoon and I have 25k on mine.Think im overdue?

I'm right there with you. Haven't changed mine in 25,000 either. Yes it's due. I'll probably put synthetic in it. It won't need anything special as far as additives are concerned.

I would have done mine by 25k miles, that is for sure.  There is no difference between it and the rear differential, they both need changed out early.  Just make sure you get a couple hundred miles of driving in 4wd done by then so the front diff gets broken in a little bit.

I doubt you hurt anything though, as the t-case and front diff, rarely get changed early by most people.  I guess they just forget about them.

What exactly are you gurus running for synthetic in the front and rear, and additives if needed for the locker? Thanks.

 :)

I just changed my front diff last night. It was the color of Goldens Brown Mustard. Very strange. Could be dyed to monitor if it was ever changed.

I use Red Line full synthetic.

No additives required. They get around $10 a quart. Factory stuff starts at $18 a quart depending on the dealer.
