K&N FIPK on dmax

Recommended Posts

I don't know much about that mod on a Dmax, but I bet you'll hear the turbo a little more, and should see some increase in HP.  My buddy put a straight through "Bullit" brand muffler on his Cummins, and the Turbo whine was very noticable and very cool...  The exhaust note was more of a "big" truck too.

At idle though there is no exhaust noise, just engine noise...  We have to ask him to shut the stinken thing off so we can carry on a conversation while standing around BS'ing.  The Cummins is a good motor but Dodge needs to do something to quiet it down a little.  They don't even put insulation under the hood!!!

What I'm curious about is a decrease in EGT's.  Since GM seen fit to use an air intake setup that is suitable for a gasser, I would hope helping the Dmax get the air it is lacking would help lower the EGT's, but that may just be wishful thinking.

As for the Cummins being quite, just wait until this fall.  Its going to sound just like the Dmax, which is a shame if you ask me.  Those ISB's sound good!

I installed the air charger on my 02' duramax and I did not really see any noticable change in hp or mpg.  The truck only has about 2000 miles on it right now so it still has not really broke in yet.  I have heard that the hp is better than stock but it is to small to see with out a dyno.

Well for the price I gave for it (150bucks) its not a bad deal, the 230 something new so I said what the heck its got to be better than the stock P.O.S airbox. At least it draws cold air,im going to rum me some dryer duct to the front bumper to direct even more cool air into the FIPK. :)

I have no experience on diesels but with turbo cars, intake mods don't do much.  Since the air is being compressed to the same pressure as before, the only help it will be is to get you cooler air and on a turbo without an intercooler that's good.  The less restrictive air path will also cut down on pre-turbo vacuum but I doubt you will see much improvement from that.  Any power you gain will most likely be from the cooler air.
