Accident

Unfortunately on my way back from a road trip home in November there was an accident in front of me that i could not stop in time for and I found the back of a neon with my truck. Originally it was written off when the damages were appraised at more than $10,000 CDN (just about half of that being in the airbag system), but i decided that it would be worth buying back with the settlement money I got from the insurance. I towed it home over Christmas to a local body shop where I could do a bunch of the work myself to keep things moving on it and get it back on the road as soon as possible. luckily I found a front clip that contained the majority of the parts needed for $3,500 minus a couple parts like the clock spring and sensors. The frame was bent a little up front, but the body shop said it went perfectly fixing it and the clip fit just right. At this point, it's as far as ready for paint, there's a few little things still to do before the inspection but in the next week and a half it should be ready to go again. I can't wait to get it back.

It's a first for me too, I hadn't realized before the accident that the airbags put out so much smoke from them deploying, it filled up the inside right away. It sure gets your mind going before you figure out what it actually was and it definitely stinks that's for sure, can't really breathe it without coughing. I am sure that it's good for the lungs. But, I guess it's better than a up-close with the dash eh? Just not a fan of the cost of replacement. Although I can't complain because I am pretty sure I am not spending more than I got back from the insurance so there some extra money to put back into the truck. Now i just have to decide what...

Well it's all finished now, seems like everything went through well, the inspection place commented on it being one of the better ones to have gone through there so that was good news. The only problem is that they could not source the decals that are on it now, and now seeing that they had to fade the paint back onto the doors some I have lost the decals on them. So now I still have the decal on the bottom behind the doors, and the pin-striping that follows the back window line. I haven't seen it in person, my dad and I are swapping back trucks on Sunday so I can't really comment too much on how it looks yet but I think it will look a little funny. I don't know what I should do with it now, because taking all the decals off will be a little plain because pewter isn't the most unique color around. Overall you can get the idea of how it will look from the first picture if all the decals from the doors forward are gone. I am partially curious what everyone has for ideas and what they think can/should be done. Once I get the truck I might take some pictures of it now that it's all back together and painted. Opinions/suggestions welcome!

Haha, not really too sure how it climbed up the front of my truck when I git it. The whole trunk ended up against the backseat of the neon/SX-2.0. You're probably right about the decals, I will have to see where I can have a look at around here when I get the chance. I don't even know what I would have in mind when it comes to them. I am sure that I will just have to pick one that I don't mind and I am sure I will begin to like it more and more over time. I might just wait for the decals until the summer where school and sports are less in the way and I can put some more work into it. Thanks for the reply.

been MIA, first post in a while....

i think thats awesome that you decided to not give up on your chevy, since it never gave up on you with terrible problems (cheesy :shakehead: ).

good luck with that man, and you should lift it when you're done, so next time it'll do more to him and less to you :banghead:

Well, it's back into my hands again. After a few different bumps in the road it's all finished and finally one less thing to worry about right now. Seems like everything is back to normal, there are a few little things to do on it still(remount fog lights etc), but nothing out of what I can do over time myself. On it's drive out here it did get it's first battle wound when a guy that parked beside it and when he was getting his little dog out of the back seat he hit put the first scratch in the door. I guess they have to happen sometime. I don't know about a lift though, might have to be something that is a little further down the road...a small one if anything, but I think more engine performance is at the top of the list at this point. At least that's what I am thinking right now.
