6.0

Recommended Posts

I'm on #2. First was a 99 2500. Now have 2001 2500HD. They have good power for what I need and gas milage is OK. I plow snow & pull a snowmobile trailer in winter and pull a boat trailer in the summer. I get 13mpg driving to work & have had 18mpg in summer (all highway) with my 2001 chev. I would buy another one.

I like the 6.0L in my truck.  It seems to motivate this big crewcab as good as the 5.3L did in my excab 1500.  My fuel milage is getting better, but I don't think it will ever be great.  My best tank so far was almost 14.5 mpg.

A guy at work bought a 1500HD and he is seeing mid 15 mpg's already with just 1K on the odometer.  I think that is because his truck sits lower to the ground and he has 3.73 gears which are not an option in the 2500HD.

If I was towing my 8000 lb trailer evryday it probably wouldn't be enough motor for me, but for towing only a few times a year it does an outstanding job for a smallblock.

I would definitely buy another 6.0/Auto combination like I have. I tow a small trailer loaded with music equipment (about 3000 lbs total) a few times a month since I'm in a band and this set up is incredibly strong.

My fuel mileage now runs a consistent low 13's everyday (mostly city driving) and now goes no lower than mid 12's with the trailer. I am VERY satisfied with it.

If I were towing a heavier load more often I would have looked at the Duramax and/or the 8.1 with the Allison. But you have to factor in the additional cost (which is sizeable when you go the Duramax route) versus the mileage driven and the economics of gas versus diesel. It would take tens of thousands of miles to get back the extra cost of the Duramax.

But - if you are buying a truck to pull heavy loads and are going to keep it for a while, the Duramax is definitely the way to go.

Bottom line? I love my 6.0 and would not hesitate to buy it again!
