Brakes, ABS and Wheel bearings

Recommended Posts

My Front Pads were getting pretty thin. I already snapped the wear indicator off on the Pass side about 500 miles ago to keep from going nuts.

Today, I dropped the rotors off to get turned and did a little shopping. I picked up the pads and rotors on my way home and was all set to put everything back together.

Well, I have the dreaded low speed ABS issues, so I decided to pull sensor out and clean it off to see if that would help. I have no up an down play in my hubs, so I am pretty sure my wheel bearings are OK.

Anyway, passenger side comes out without a problem. One Allen screw and some back-and-forth wiggling and the sensor pops right out of the hub. I cleaned it off real good and put it back in.

Drivers side was a different story. I couldn't get the sensor out. I could twist it back and fort, but it wouldn't come out. I noticed that the sensor had a crack in the side, so I pryed a little harder and it broke apart.

What a PITA. The dealer wants $170 for this d**n thing. GMparttsdirect.com wants $90. NAPA is $105.

So much for a quick, cheap brake job... :D

Well, I checked around this morning and the whole hub/bearing/ABS sensor unit is $165. So I am just going to replace the whole thing. No use replacing only the sensor in a unit with 175K on it when I can get the whole cow for $165...

Now, I need to find someone with a 36mm socket I can barrow...
