Well I feel dumb!!!!

Recommended Posts

Yep.  I feel dumb.  I was wondering why my truck was so loud with the 50 series delta flow mufflers.  Cause I actually have 40 series delta flows!!!!!  :0  :0  :0

The guy that installed the system says he thought I wanted the 40 series and that I decided against the 50's.  Whadda dummy!  Both him and me.  Oh well, Maybe I should dynamat the whole interior now, hahaha!!!!

To those that I said the 50 series deltas were loud, I can now honestly retract that statement.  I actually have no clue as to what they sound like on a 6.0!!!!!  LOL

I CAN tell you that the true dual setup with 40's is loud though.

Hehehe, as the saying goes, "Loud pipes saves lives!"

I'd say you actually came out on the plus side of this if he charged you for 50 series.

40 series are probably a 1 or 2 chamber muffler vs. the 50 series which is either a 2 or 3 chamber muffler which explains why the 40 is louder.

Yup!  True that about loud pipes!

The 50's are 3 chamber, these are 2.  I might be getting a bit more used to em now.  I kinda like em more now than when I first drove it with them on.  Don't know what the DMV will say when inspection time comes around though.

You'll find that as you put mileage on, they'll mellow out a little as the "newness" wears off the muffler.

You'll pass whatever the DMV throws at it.  The sound has nothing to do with the actual contents of the output of the exhaust, unless you remove the cats.  They can frown all they wanted, as long as it passes emissions they'll have to bite their tongues.

I run a straight pipe (except with cats) when I do the Illinois IM 240 roller emissions test and pass with flying colors.  It's loud inside the testing station, but that's a good thing watching old ladies and the BMW crowd cover their ears in angst.

I was wondering if you could strait pipe these..  How loud is it?  Interior resonance really bad?

Not on this, on the Z.  You can straight pipe anything as far as I'm concerned.  As long as the cat(s) do their job and effectively scrub out the bad stuff, all a straight pipe will do is allow the spent gases to expel quicker and with more noise.

I thought the mufflers looked a little short in those pics you sent me. But I didnt have any part numbers to go by to look at the flowmaster website. 50 series have about a 4" longer body to get the 3 chambers. But oh well, I think I am still going to get the 50's.

1BADHD, yeah, I was thinking that, dang, these are short!  Looked at the part number and it was something like 943041 not 943051.  If I'm going to replace these with 50's, I'm going to find another shop to do it.  I called the place that put these in and he said it was 30 bucks more per muffler for the 50's :0

I don't think so.  They're only 10 bucks more at summitracing.

I may even try out the Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers.  Ah, I was thinking just before I had this exhaust put on that it'd probably be the first of many setups I was going to try.

The problem is, there really aren't any people out there with the 2500HD's with the 6.0 that have tried or done custom setups, or they just aren't members on any message boards.

Maybe in about a year, more people will have tried different setups and can help and offer opinions as to what's a good exhaust setup and what is not.

antig24,  I have a feeling this is going to haunt me in all future posting I do here! LOL

Steve, I have had DynoMax on several of my trucks, SuperTurbo's specifically and I have two vehicles recorded in wave files.  One if the Tahoe (5.7L) and one was on my Blazer (4.3L V6).

Both are/were much more mellow, deeper and more rich sounding than others which is what I like.

CMNTMXR81,

Guess what, I had the 40's replaced yesterday with Turbo's!

The place I had do it, also fixed a leak that the other shop caused in the left pipe over the axle and they installed an hpipe that the first place said wasn't necessary.  This took away the wah wah drone effect and should also help keep the ticking, inherent with headers, to a minimum when I install those.

I think these turbos sound good.  Nice and low deeper rumble without much interior resonance.  Total spur of the moment thing for me to do too.  I was recommended to them by a friend who's had a bit of work done there.

I kept the 40's though, just in case. LOL  They were bothering my 4 yo son.  He doesn't like loud noises.  Imagine that for a 4 year old. hahaha

Awesome Steve!

Like I've said, I've always been a big fan of DynoMax.

I'd like to know why they originally installed an "H" pipe unless you were doing true duals.  Otherwise, your crossover pipe should be sufficient.

Oh well, glad to hear all is well in sound land.  :D

I actually like them.  They give a nice burble at idle, deeper tone under light acceleration, and sounds real nice giving it half + throttle.  At highway cruising speeds, barely noticeable in the cab.  The flows were VERY noticeable in the cab, not so much a problem personally, but my son goes on rides with me a bit, and it's too much for him.  Hurts his ears.

Plus, I live in a pretty hilly, valley type area, and the drone in cab at 5:30AM was sometimes aggravating me.

The turbo mufflers were 60 bucks each.  They aren't Dynomax turbo's though.  I can't remember what kind they are, but they have an overall length of about 23 inches.  The mufflers are about 18 or 19 inches and they're packed with fiberglass, not hollow like the flows.  If you want a more free flowing muffler, the flows are better, and most likely, the 50 series would suit you fine, the turbos I have might not be loud enough.  I just thought that the 50 series would still be too much for my son in the cab.  Plus, now I will be able to better hear my sub(when my son's not in the truck) I'm putting in on Saturday!

Boom Boom Boom!!!!  But to heavy metal and rock.

Grew up in the 80's, what else was there to listen too then? ;)
