Disabling the Twilight Sentinel

Raven

Recommended Posts

I'm familiar with how GM's Twilight Sentinel works and have disabled it before on other GM cars I've owned, particularly Camaros. Now I've got this wonderful truck and love everything about it except for the fact that I have no control over when my headlights come on. It's a pain to go through a drive through carryout or to be sitting in the evening when it starts to get dusk and my dang lights come on. You can imagine the looks from the rear window of those in front of me, especially in the carryout!  :sarcasm:

So, how do I get to the wiring on the sentinel or is there even an easy way to do it? With that yardstick deep dash it appears very hard to get to, which I imagine was GM's idea when they put the sensor where it is. It would have been nice if they had given us a way to disable it like you can the DRL's.

Any experience here?

And lastly, where is the best place to get the kit that allows you have both the brights and the dims on when you put your brights on? As we know, when we hit the switch to turn on the brights, our dims go off. It would be nice to have that light and I know there are kits out there to do that...

Where and how much?

Thanks in advance!

The quickest way to shut off the lights is to push the dome overide button 3-4 times until you hear the chime.  You will then have manual control over yoour headlights until the next time you shut down the truck and restart it.

There is a kit for this and I think for the quadlights from R&D products.  I have the link on my other computer, so maybe someone will stick it in here for me...

Here is some info I pulled off of our site about the R&D Products.  Click here

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I thought the dome control override was for the DRL's only? I've only scanned the manual so far so I could certainly be wrong....

Frank - yeah, it's me, the one and the same. I just bought this super truck and love it! How ya been?

Thanks, Shaners. Once more, you are absolutely right. This time, about the dome overide being able to force the headlights into full manual control. Egg on my face  - I should have read the manual more thoroughly!

Everyday, I find more and more things about this truck I love. Compared to my old F250 Superduty Crew Cab 4x4, this Silverado is just unbelievable!

Thanks again.

GM trucks are some of the best executed products in the GM lineup.  It's little things like the dome override, remote lock switches, removable and dishawasher safe cupholder and tray linings, etc, etc, that continue to earn them their praise.

Raven,   I too think the DRLs and auto on

headlights are a pain........

Check out that R&D controller. Afew guys

here have installed them with good results.

If you don't have fog lights pull the DRL

fuse under the hood. If you do pull the bulbs.

If you don't wanna spend the 80 bucks for

the R&D controller check out this site FREE !

www.lightsout.org

This is where i got FREE hints to turn OFF

the auto ons by switching a couple of wires

on my headlight switch to turn Off those

PIA auto ons !......................Geo

BTW: Thats where I got the info to turn

off the auto lights on my Caddy too !

you know I tried that Dome override and it didn't work in my truck....must be disabled somehow...

FlyinGN I recognize your name from TurboBuicks.com as well.....

I'm not positive, but I think that only works for the '99 and up new body style trucks.  ???
