massachusetts/long island 4wheeling?

I doubt you are going to find many places on LI. Closest thing so far I've found are the beaches. I dont know about the other northern states though. If you do happen to hear of anything, please pass the word around. Im about to run the hose and go mudding in my back yard if I dont find something soon. Should be interesting with 1/2 acre :D

BTW, where the freakin snow? Its december 4th and its like 60 degrees outside. Total crap.

How is smith point? I've never taken my truck over there as I live closer to the north shore beaches. After all the storms in the past years I've heard there isnt much beach left. Where on the island are you located? Originally from patchogue but im in riverhead now.

im in port jeff station, originally from mastic beach. it varies through the season how much beach there is. this year there was only about a mile stretch open until august, then they were able to open the full beach (all the way to the morciches inlet), the sand recycles itself more towards the end of the summer and the piping plover(?) birds are done mating. its well worth the half hour drive in my opinion, the sand and privacy is sooo much better than the rocks of the north shore (ex. cedar). here are some pics i took from this summer:

Wow that does look pretty good.  I think i might have to make the trip to check it out.  The north shore beaches are nice but in most parts there is barely enough room to make a u turn which kinda sucks.  thanks for the info.

u can drive on the north shore?

Sure, there are a couple beaches right near riverhead that i go to. Check out:

which ones are driveable? they say that theyre town beaches, that means i need to be a resident and need a permit right? i live in brookhaven, so i wcant there. i didnt think the wading river beach (i call it cedar) had 4x4 ing.

I dont remember off hand (they gave me a booklet when i got the permit that lists the 4x4 beaches). I do know that roanoke ave is 4x4 accessible as well as reeves beech. The booklet listed about 4 or 5 areas total. As far as the permit goes, you are correct - you need to be a riverhead town resident to get it. However, i'll tell you right now i have my sticker in my center console (not stuck on my window like they said) and i have never had anyone ask me to see it. Not that its a guarantee, but im sure you could check it out a few times without a permit and not run into any problems.
