I'm new to this Site, I hope everyone enjoys my truck pics, It is Sunset Orange Metallic, though in the pictures it looks red.  I hope to get some better quality pics out there soon.

I came over from pickuptrucks.com.

Can anyone suggest some good snow tires?  I have some steel rims that I am going to be using during the winter and need some good snow tires.  Suggestions, comments welcome.

Welcome to GM-Trucks...

I love that Sunset Orange color...  That's the first 1500HD that I've seen in Sunset Orange...  Good looking truck!!!

As far as tires I can only tell you to stay with stock width...  wide tires dion't do well in the snow.  I had Courser A/T's LT(made by Cooper and identical to the Discoverer A/T) and they were very good in my opinion.  They had alot of "sipes" on them and had excellent grip.  I rarely had to use four wheel drive.  If you have any faith in consumers reports, they rated the Discoverers the best tire in their test for traction on snow and ice.  I think I paid about $105/tire mounted balanced and out the door for the Coursers I bought and  they were 265/75/16 LT (load range "D").

Welcome to the site.

For good snow tires look for a mild mud tire.  You want some siping in there, as well as tread that go parallel to the direction of travel to help stop sideways sliding, but you also want lugs that are perpendicular to the direction of travel to help keep you going in the loose stuff.  In other words, go for something like a BFG Mud-Terrain or similar rather than something like a Bogger.

If you do want to change to a different size tire, I would recommend a 235/85 or a 255/85 tire for better snow travel.  The 235/85 isn't any larger in diameter then the stock 245/75, but they are narrower.  That helps in the snow.  The 255/85 will be about 2" taller, and only slightly wider.

btw, I love the color.  And having black flares and accesories will really set it apart.

Thanks antig24!

Chevy 4x4, I thought I still had my GMC brochure, but I don't, so I'm not sure how they work it.  I thought the 2500/3500hd in the brochure had a switch for the passenger airbag.  I have a 1500HD which is new for this year, so I'm not sure why it is different.

Reg cab and ext cabs have the air bag switch, but not the crewcabs.  I wish I had one in my truck because with bucket seats up front I can only carry 5 people and sometimes that could mean taking 4 kids to a ballgame or something, and one kid has to sit up front.  Hopefully these newer airbags work like they claim, and the seatbelt integrated into the seat back on the buckets actually fits a bigger child rather well.
