4 wheel drive question

Recommended Posts

I was towing my two quads back from Utah today I was about 150 miles into the return trip and I looked down and observed that I was still in 4 wheel high. I immediately put it back in 2 wheel high. Did I hurt anything? I looked at all of my temp guages and everything was normal......................man, I hope I didnt.........

something like that happened to my dad when we were going to oregon. (hes lazy and has the push button stuff) he hit the button by accident and drove a bit on country roads in 4 hi, from what we can tell no damage maybe some decreased fill milage maybe. as long as you werent turning a lot i wouldnt think it would cause any major problems

I doubt you hurt anything.  If you were doing alot of in town driving going around corners, there might of been a little "binding".  But straight line driving shouldn't have hurt anything.  I wouldn't recommend driving with it in 4 high on dry roads all the time however...

I did this with a Z71 truck about 10 years ago. I forgot to shift out of 4WD maybe 4 times, for a total of about 200 miles on dry pavement. The final time, my transmission started making a high-pitched "ringing" noise. I took it into the dealer a few weeks later, and it was new tranny time (covered under warranty, thank goodness). This is not supposed to be covered under warranty, and I would not want to try this again. What really tees me off is that in my new Chevy truck, there is no 4WD indicator light on the dash.

The indicator on my truck is the light associated with the button that is pushed (I could see how it could be missed).  I think the light referred to is that there is no light (similar to Highbeams) in the center of the dash.

Ya guys better toake your trucks to a GM dealer cause I just went outside to check mine and the yellow "4WD" light lights up when I stick mine in 4 wheel drive.. It on the top left of the cluster.. Above the trans temp gauge (if ya have the towing package)

I thought that light only works if you have the floor mounted 4wd shifter. Does anyone have a truck with the push button 4wd system that has a dash indicator to say that it's engaged? I'd love to have that. It's been a complaint I've had in my last 3 GM full size trucks all with push button 4wd.

it shud be fine...had u been in 4lo you would notice, and if u didn't you'd be in some deep poopoo if it was in 4lo....i heard of this lady who got a blazer 4x4, she took it to the dealer complaining about it going too slow, she had it in 4lo, she thought 4lo was low beam for the headlights
