Any new HD models coming?

Recommended Posts

In a couple of other forums, I've seen reference to separate 2002 3500 models and 2002 3500HD models.  Is there anything to this, or is this just a case of accidental confusion?

Is there any talk about GM coming out with a non-dually 3500 model soon?  If so, I haven't seen it.

Can anyone enlighten me.

Thanks.

Larry

I belive that there is a 3500HD model comming based on the new Medium Heavy Duty models. The showed off the new line with the "Bruin" Concept.

I haven't heard about any non-dually 3500's, but more information about the 2002 lineup will start flowing in the next month or two.

Here's what I know:

1 -- Single rear wheel 3500

I know of no plans for this.  The GVWR's for the new trucks are higher than in the past.  The new 2500HD actually has a GVWR similar to the old single rear wheel 3500.  Think of the new 2500HD as a "SRW 1-Ton" truck.  To meet the GVWR ratings of the new 3500 the dual wheels are required, so I don't look for GM to produce a SRW 3500.

2) -- 3500 Vs. 3500HD

There IS a 3500HD produced currently.  It only comes in regular cab, 2WD, chassis cab configuration.  It has a C/K style cab and chassis.  It also has a higher GVWR than the new 3500 Silverado discussed in point 1.  The redesigned 3500HD is due to debut in June.  Rumor is that the Bruin hinted at what it would look like.  GM has put a gag order on their media department until the unveiling next month so we'll just have to wait and see.

I noticed that article on the diesel page this morning.  It didn't mention much about the 4x4 system going to be used on the 4500 and 5500 trucks, I was pretty interested in that.  Seems like GM is getting pretty serious about competing with Ford in this segment.

I sure do like the looks of that 4500 GMC....

There was info on the Bruin at its debut back on late October 2000 at the SEMA 2000 show in Las Vegas.

See  www.duramax.bizhosting.com  then click the Jim's SEMA 2000 link.  He did that and the 2001 HD Silverado/Sierra Power Launch Tour info there for that dieselpage but the really strange thing was the administrator there wanted copyright control and said he could not post on his own site- so he declined as he was not getting anything for all his work.

Let him know by email if you like his work.
