B/L or TKeys?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I'm new to this form, so any advice would help. I have been pondering for a while what type of look I'm trying achieve with my 2000 Silverado 5.3 Z71 StepSide.

I really don't want to put the truck to high in the air, as I park underground. I have been reading these forms for about a month and some say this and that. I would like to put a few inches on the truck, at least level her out as the nose is in the grass while her ass is in the air and put BFG either 305 or 285/75/16Rs. I do a lot of hghway driving, but love the trail less travelled. Currently, the truck is stock 16s with 265/75/R16s Firestone, and I have over 125,000kms on them. Yes, Canada :lurk: But they are very old now and the wear is noticable. Even an alignment doesn't help anymore. It was a great tire, what can I say.

To the point, I want to get some lift to put either tire on but keep it roughly 2-3" on the body to level her out and or put a tiny bit of height. Some say Ford keys, others say put a lift on her.

I would like to know what it is that most people are running with this size tire. Keys or B/L? Any issues? Anything that I should be aware of when attempting to go this high with either. I'm planning on using the existing rims as well. I love Chevy rims and have no plan at this point to replace them, but perhaps in the future. I would like to keep the existing shocks and everything else as well.

All your input is very valuable.

Thanks.

I'm running 285 Cooper Discoverer STT's on the stock rims with no lift of any kind and they fit great with no rubbing or anything at full lock. Plus, they look just awesome as well.

But if ya want some kind of lift, I can't help ya there because I have neither a body or torsion lift. I thought of a torsion at some point, but I love the way my truck rides and with the bigger tires, her look and stance is perfect to me now.

I have a body lift and love it. I felt the body lift wasn't as detrimental to the overall functionality of the truck as compared to torsion bar keys. I had the cranked but due to alignment issues returned them to stock. The body lift has just lowered my gas mileage due to poorer aerodynamics.
