Steve,

The next thing I have to do is get some nerfbars or side steps on my truck.  I'm tired of having to pick up my kids and put them inside.

I've thought hard about possibly adding a Borla muffler in place of the stock one, but I don't know if they make one to fit.  I'd keep the massive stock stainless pipe though...

I ran JBA headers on a 5.3 Silverado and supercharged 6.0 Suburban. Easy install and they are usually worth about 10-12 hp. I'm running a set of The Other Guys long tube headers on my 2002 8.1 Suburban. They quality is excellent and they have seen a 23hp improvement on a stock 8.1 motor. They should be worth more on this truck with the Whipple.

We have one set of 8.1 long tubes for sale at a reduced price. They are brand new and are for a truck that doesn't have AIR fittings. We'll let these go for $600. plus shipping.

There were alot of LS1 clutch issues a few years ago that weren't being worked out to quickly so I found it better to convert the car to an automatic. It's much more consistant at the track and easier to dial in. Myself and another driver ran withing .01 of eachother and that was making high 10 second passes. Now if I can only find time to install the ATI kit and dial it in with the 409 motor...

Like with the trucks anything you can do to help your Z breath better will give you more horsepower. For $1000. I would go with a K+N FIPK and aluminized Random Technology catback ($520. total). Or for a more aggressive sound and better flow the SLP Loudmouth would be a good choice (add an extra $100. for the exhaust and installation kit). From there your choice start to spread out. You could go with a set of 1.6 roller rockers ($299.). That would be like doing a small cam change and give you about 10hp. Or there is the Hypertech Power Programer can recalibrate your fuel/ignition curves, raise the rev-limiter, turn the fans on earlier. If you have a high mileage car replacing the cat would be a good mod. Just depends how much you would like to get out of the car but the induction/exhaust mods are a good place to start.
