HD Fog Lamps

PCAB

Recommended Posts

My HD factory fog lamps melted the deflectors off.  They didn't fall off but MELTED.  They are the same as when they came out of the factory.  I cannot believe these could be this cheap.  Based on this I would never be able to put in a higher watt bulb if the stock ones get to hot.  Hopefully this was just a glich, and the new ones will be just great.  Have to wait 3 weeks to get new ones though, no appointments till then.

PCAB,  the fog lights on these trucks are really cheap.  I have gotten to where I don't even turn mine on anymore, because I can see the light beams shaking around everytime I hit a bump.  It's too bad they are such an odd shape, or I'd replace them with some nice aftermarket lights, that would actually put out some light (and wouldn't wobble around in their openings).

GARMAT:  I would agree these lights are not the best of quality.  They do not shed that much light and mine wobble over the bumps to.  I will keep looking to find something that will fit in their place and until then my factory ones will just have to get me by.

The driving lights in our trucks are made by "Blazer."  The same cheap Blazer brand you can buy at Wal-mart for $29.95.

Needless to say, after exploding my bulbs this past weekend from blasting through huge lakes of water, on top of which them shaking each time I hit a bump, I already have my PIAA 980's on the way which will fit right in the stock hole.

BTW, bulb number is 880 in case anyone needs to know.  For some reason GM feels they don't need to list this bulb in their replacement list in the manual.

Funny that you should be talking about GM fog lights. I work at the Saturn factory, and last week the job I was doing was installing the fog lights. The bulbs are # 880's and say 27.5 watts. Yea, they feel cheap!

Hey, can you let us know how it goes swapping those factory lights out for PIAA's?  If I ever get a new truck, that is probably what I will do to the factory fog lights, because I'd like something that actually puts out some light.

No problem.  I plan on doing it in the next month or so.
