Squeeking belt

Recommended Posts

The belt on my engine was sqeeking until it warmed up. Then i put on STP belt dressing and now it sqeeks all the time. How do I stop this belt from making this sqeek...............it's driving me crazy....................

I made that mistake one time with my '91.  I had to get a new belt.  ???

That belt dressing stuff sucks.  I took it back and got my money back.

Take a "Lumber Grease Pencil" and hold it on the grooved side of the belt while the engine is running.  This works good.  Most belt dressings say on the can "not for serpintine belts".  I have also tried belt dressing and it made it worse.  Use a lumber grease pencil.  It will stop.  It may come back after awhile.  Reapply as neccessary.

If you do use the "Lumber Grease" pencil, just be DA** careful not to get anything caught in the rotating belt.

Most likely, You'll be replacing the belt. I would try to get it replaced under warranty, and if that doesn't work, $30-$40 should get you a new belt.

Good Luck, and BE SAFE!!!
