Side bars for 2500HD

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for some side bars for my HD extended cab.  I had CPS Westin bars on my z71, but obviously, they won't work on the HD.  Besides, I would rather have black since my truck is Charcoal Gray.

My dad had Westin black ones on his 97 z71 and they rotted out within 3 years from all the salt they dump on the roads here in the winter.

Anyone know of a brand for the HD's besides Westin?

Thanks :D

Steve any nerf bar that you buy that is black powder coat will rust and pit over time.  I have the westins and after a yr and a half are holding up well.  After this winter might need new ones.

It doesnt really matter which manufacturer you go with they will all have their problem.  My go rhino tail light guards rusted in spots after less than a yr.  I sent them to jon (chevy4x4trucks) and he painted them and sprayed bedliner stuff on them

Thats another option get the black and have them rhino lined or something like that

Westin makes a stainless version for the HD. Part number is 26-1940 for the chrome ones. They also make a black version . Both come with a lifetime warranty. In Minnesota there are several places that sell these bars that are rhino coated.

Jay, thanks.  I actually have in my basement, the Westin CPS bars I had on my 01 Z71.  They won't work on the HD and I really want black ones as my truck is a dark color with a black tonneau cover.  I may actually consider getting the Westin black ones iff'n I can find someone around here that is good at coating them with something like you and Ryan mentioned.:D

Steve,  couldn't you just order the HD installation kit and use your old bars?  Although you didn't say whether your old truck was an excab or not.

If they are excab bars, you might be able to get them coated.  Just make sure you screw some bolts into all the threaded holes first...

I had Smittybuilt's on my Blazer.  I got them because at the time, they were the only ones with the nice step surface on the bar.  However, they rusted REAL fast.  I took them off and had a friend who paints show qaulity Harley's acid dip them (they are hollow too) , prime them and then re-powder coat them in black.

they looked absolutely awesome and lasted for the 5 remaining years I had the truck without a spec of rust.

ClawSS,

Thanks for that link!  Holy schneickies!  I didn't know they had stainless black ones.  Very cool!

Wait, I just checked the site more carefully.  They say that they are 'in progress' on the ones for the HD's.  Oh well, maybe I can wait a l'il while longer.  They're more for the wife than me anyway.  I'm about 5'11 and don't really need em, but she complains every time she gets in the truck.:sigh:

Shaners, I may check into that as well, even though I don't really want the chrome CPS ones on the truck.  Goin for that gray and black look.;)

Oh yeah, I bought a digital camera the other day(Fujifilm Finepix 2800) and will be taking pictures very soon of the truck.  Here's a link to a couple of pics of my son, daughter and dog though.  Truck pics should be there by Friday.

I just installed my set today (Turkey Day) and the are the Weston Platinum CPS Step Bars in Black powder coated finish.  Yes, they are STAINLESS STEEL and beautiful!!!!!  They fit very nicely and I ordered them from Summit Racing for $209.99, best price I could find.  They were drop shipped from the factory.

Weston has a lifetime warrantee on their Platinum Series bars.
