Rear End or Brakes ?

Recommended Posts

My sons has a 94' K1500 4x4 and is have trouble with the rear left wheel locking up you could not turn it by hand or anything he had this happen about once about 4or 5 months ago and we tore the rear brakes apart and coulded find anything then we took the rear end diff. cover off and everything in there looked like new got everything back together and the wheel would turn. well this time he had gone off-roading with it and had a lot of mud on his truck so when he washed everything real good he went to move it the next day and the same thing was going on again the left rear wheel would not move even in 4wheeldrive so he tore the drum off and said everything looked good put it all back together but still can not get it to move . anybody have a clue as to what is going on ? any help would be great ! Thanks !

Try backing off the adjusters on that wheel. I'll bet he's backing up and slamming on the brakes, causing the rear drums to self-adjust further than they need to. It'll cause the back tire to lock really quick. It could also be a problem with the e-brake, but I'm leaning more toward the adjuster.

The fisrt time it happen he was just backing the truck up, he said he had put it in gear and it just woulded let go he tried to back up but the left rear would not turn . I/we can not see anything leaking into or around the break that was my first thought was that the break was leaking fluid but nothing dry as a bone and this is happening with out putting the breaks on hard the pass. side seems to be fine but i can't remeber if it turned or not with the drum off i'm going to say no but not sure it just broke loose and started to turn .
