CMNT81
What's the noise you are hearing? I may have missed previous post. I loved dealing with warranty companies when we had customer cars in for service.
4x4TX
Just the typical tapping noise at start ups....Sounds like a diesel sometimes....
CMNT81
Lifters and valvetrain noise. That's somewhat normal, especially after it's sat for awhile. The important issue is whether it goes away as it warms up and oil makes it way back up into the upper cylindrical area.

Yeah it may be "normal" for the 6.0L, but that doesnt mean it is right...i would not have bought the truck if the noise was present at the time of purchase... GM says "it is normal" but there is also a new piston in development for the LS1 platform....wait and it will come... we hope

You're also the reason that service departments and techs like myself hated you. Here's another one we always heard..."oh, this Allison transmission is too loud!" Well no offense, you have a HD truck with a HD towing/work transmission, it's gonna make a slight bit more noise as it goes about it's business than a 4L60E. Same case here. It's normal for any engine with lifters that after sitting for awhile (especially when colder out) to make a little lifter and valvetrain noise until oil is pumped back up and pressure is restored to the lifter itself as well as oil pumped up to the rockers to coat them which will eliminate excess noise. NOW, if after a few minutes of operation, the noise is still persistant and hasn't gone away, that's a whole different ball of wax altogether and needs to be investigated and corrected. Could be a simply valvetrain adjustment all the way up to having the entire valvetrain inspected and replaced. Although I will tell you that these LS1 derived engines have no adjustment in their valvetrain. Simply torque them down to 22ft-lbs of torque and they're set. Please don't get me wrong, if it needs fixing, I'm all for it, but if it's something that there really isn't a fix for and is considered a normal noise, then you are wasting your time, my time and the dealerships time to chase nothing. My 2500HD makes some pretty funky noises too (especially in the colder temps) but unless I replace the alternator's or power steering pump's pulley to fix one of them, I really don't let it bother me too much. Some of you expect Lexus like operation out of what is essentially a brute force work tool. Also, I wasn't aware that the new pistons for 6.0's were out yet.
