Amount of Diff. Fluid

How many quarts of rear axle fluid does the 2500 HD with 8.1 and Allison require?  I've read some forums which say a little less than 3 and some say a little more than 3 quarts.

just did this this eavning,and I took just over 4, if i had been happy with just below the hole (within spec) 4 would have been ok

 

get the gm stuf if u have the eaton loker 15.60/quart at gmparts direct $26 at the dealer

Factory fill for the 11.5" diff is 3.83 qts.

When I refilled, it took just a little over 4 qts like raventai's.

 

I refilled with Mobil 1 75w-90 $6.99 qt and no troubles since it was changed a few thousand miles ago.
