Where are they built?

Recommended Posts

Where are the 2500HD's built? I will be in Michigan in September and would love to see the plant... do they give tours? in fact I will be there the very week our new truck is supposed to be built... it would be great to see it roll off the line!

If things go as planned i will be in Poniac on the 6th and maybe on the 7th... the truck is supposed to be built the week of the 10th but i don't have definate date yet. it would be a shame to be that close and not get to see it... but I'm sure there isn't much chance of a tour. I will send Pontiac an e-mail later and see what he has to say... A photo fo my truck as it comes off the line would be great!

The HD's are all built in the States .....

All Crew Cabs and all Doolies are built in Flint, MI.  All SRW Regular Cabs and all Extended Cabs are built in either Pontiac, MI or Fort Wayne, IN.  As far as the tour goes, I have no idea, but it would be cool if you could see your truck being built.

Mervz -- "pontiac" USED to work at the Pontiac plant, but he is now RETIRED (of course he may still have connections!)

Wolfie,

Sk is right all 2500HD's and 3500 are built in Flint, MI. I got mine on 14 June 01 TPW was 28 May 01. If once your truck is built and you want to track it from the plant let me know and I'll give you the web site to track it. You will need the VIN number or the railcar number. Email me and I can provide you with the info you need. I tracked my truck all the way until it was put on a truck carrier to the dealer.

Good luck on the tour.  When you get to MI try contacting Product Delivery at the plant they may help you on the tour.

Heavy Chevy,

I live in Lansing too!  I see that your dad works at the Olds plant in Lansing?  Half my family (uncles, father in law, grandfather) work for GM in Lansing too.  One at the main plant, and a couple at plant 3.  What plant is he in?  I'll mention it to these guys to see if they know him.

thanks for keeping my post at the top of the list here. I just hope someone can give me an idea of who to contact to get into the plant when I am in Michigan. From what I can tell the regular cab trucks are built in Pontiac... at least that's what it say on the window stickers on all the ones i've seen on the lots around here. even if I can't work it out to be there the day my truck is built I would still like to see the plant while I'm there. so if anyone has a name or phone number of someone that can help I would be very greatful. I did send an email to Pontiac but I haven't heard back from him... I hope he is enjoying his retirement.

wolfie,

For what it's worth, I think pontiac (Howard) is on a 3 week tour of the midwest then down to Hilton Head from reading his post on the "other" forum.  So, if he doesn't respond to your e-mail that's probably the reason.  I can't say I blame him, I saw his truck at the dealer the day he picked it up (he got it from a dealer in Lansing about 2 miles from my house).  It is sweeeeet!  Anyway, here is the link that lists his tour dates.  I live about an hour from the Flint plant and about an hour from the Pontiac plant.  Wish I could show you into the plant, but I don't get a "key" like the rest of my family!  (hehe)

Here is the link:

I heard from him today. He won't be in town the week the truck will be built but we may still be able to work out a tour the next week... and who is to say the truck will actually be built the week I was told?

Wolfie:

I believe some regular cabs are built in Fort Wayne, IN.  I know you said you are going to Michigan, but there is a guy on PUTC setting up a tour of the Fort Wayne plant: http://forums.pickuptruck.com/Forum11/HTML/005914.html  Maybe you could take a side trip there.  If you ordered a regular cab it will either be built at Fort Wayne or Pontiac East.
