finding out the rear end gearing?

Recommended Posts

Nexus,

Is your 95 a 1/2 ton 3/4 ton?  The easiest way is to look for the RPO code in the glovebox (this is a sticker on the inside of the glovebox with a bunch of alphanumeric "codes").  For the rear end ratio the RPO code will start with a "G" here is a list of most of the rear ends in the GM's.  Most likely you have either a 3:42, 3:73 or possibly a 4:10.

I have mine for my '98, but I think we have some different options.  Easiest way is to take your VIN #, to the dealer, or a Chevy dealer (you never said if you got the new truck from a dealer or individual?) and they can punch your # in their computer and it'll printout what every code on your truck is for, like window and seat styles, the GVW, fleetside or stepside, paint, alternator amperage, speaker size, brake types, etc.  And it should be free-
