Northstar swap idea

FREEMAN

Recommended Posts

Does anyone think that a :smash: caddilac Northstar engine would be a cool swap to do? I wonder what would work for a tranny? I think it would be cool to have a twin turbo setup and there is a company that makes a kit that puts out over 600hp. I just want some opinions but I know that it would not be very easy to do.

actually its easy as hell. all you need is the northstar itself and computer wiring sensors. Then to set it back to sit the RIGHT way in the engine bay, use the bellhousing off a 3.8L v6 camaro or Trans am. ( needs to be slightly modified)

ive seen it done in some pretty cool street rods.

I'm pretty sure GM now makes a crate engine Northstar that sits the right way.

they make the northstar crate engines , but not with the correct transmission parts to make them run RWD. For that ,you have to do what I originally posted ^^^

Finding a older wrecked caddy with a northstar shouldnt be hard.and what I learned is it has to be the bell housing from the 3rd Gen F Bodies.

Or I guess that you could now pull the engine and trans from a Wrecked Cadillac XLR. good luck finding one!

I'd have to check the new GMPP catalog, I'm fairly sure I saw the Northstar engine designed to go North/South in a RWD application. It was designed for hot rods. I may be wrong though, I was too busy droolong over the big blocks.

In any case, as far as your wife goes remember this, It is easier to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission in the first place!
