1999 2500: Upgrade to HD Front Suspension?

Recommended Posts

I have a 1999 2500 4X4, I want my truck to sit as high as the new HD models so I can put bigger tires on her.  What needs to be done to get the extra height?  Will tweaking the torsion bars and adding a leaf do the trick?  Can I get HD parts from GMC?  What exactly is the difference?

thanks!

Welcome Holeshot,

I'm sure you can either crank up your torsion bars or add the HD bars to your truck.  I'm not sure that adding the HD bars will change much though.  I think the GVW between the 2 trucks is only 400 lbs.

The biggest difference between the 2 trucks is the HD has a larger frame which makes the body sit a couple of inches higher.  So short of a small lift your truck won't sit quite as high as the HD's.

By cranking the stock torsion bars you should be able to put 285 tires on her without too much trouble.  That should give you the look and aggressive stance you're after.  And if your truck is a Chevy, you could purchase the HD "power dome"  hood.  I don't know if the hood would work on the GMC's or not...
