I'm kicking tires...

Recommended Posts

I'm tossing around the idea of buying a new 2500 HD!!!  The interest rates through my credit union are 6.5% for up to 6 years.  If the dealers will honor my GMS discount on a new HD and if they don't kill me too bad on my '00 Siverado on a trade, then I may be very serious about it.  I would like a Duramax crew cab short bed 4x4, and I'm guessing the sticker will be around ?K.  Man, that's alot of cash (OUCH)!!  I think GMS discount will bring it down around ?K-?K.  There are 2 ExCabs diesels around here, but all the crewcabs have the 6.0L.  The dealer should call today to tell me if he'll honor my GMS discount.

The dealer called and said he would honor GMS on all in stock trucks.  The excab Duramax could be mine for ?,450.00  I'm sure the 6.0L crewcabs would be around ?K-?K.  (Probably closer to ?K).

I guess I'll have to check and see what he'll give me for my '00 Silverado w/3.1K miles on it.

Has anyone done any towing with the 6.0L?  How does it do? I tow about 8000 lbs.  What kind of fuel milage empty and towing with the 6.0L?

his D-max is pewter, and the  crewcabs are green and black.  All 3 are 4x4's and well loaded.

the company I work for (General Electric) is a major supplier to GM.  Therefore GE employees are eligable for a discount on GM vehicles.

GMS stands for GM supplier.  I get 4% over the gms price.  On the Dmax excab that he has in stock, my price is about ? under invoice.  sticker -   invoice   GMS plus 4% is .

I really want the crewcab and I wish he had a Dmax crewcab in stock...  The excab is nice but I'm looking a few years down the road when my 3 kids are bigger.  Right now they are 8,5 and 2 so the excab is OK.   But when they are 12,9 and 6 the crewcab would be much nicer.

Who is your credit union with 6.5%. I would be interested due to the fact I ordered my 2500HD and it will be here in about 2 weeks (hopefully). My credit union is offering 8.0% for 72 mo. If you don't mind giving the name up and what the requirements are to join the so call credit union. By the way what is the interest at 72 mo.

Why not go for the 8.1?  For no more miles then you drive (based on your current mileage) it would seem to make more sense.  They really don't get much worse mileage then the 6.0, allow you to get the Allison, and save about 3k over the Duramax.  Just a thought.

Heavy Chevy,

My credit union is the general electric employees federal credit union.  I believe members have to be employees or family members to join.  And yes... their 72 month rate is 6.5%!!!  So now you know why I'm kicking tires...

Interest Rate + GMS pricing + GM credit card credits + ? Oldsmobile loyalty voucher (good on any GM) = new HD??? Maybe...

Yes the 8.1L has crossed my mind but the dealer I'm looking at only has one 8.1L and it is a dually.  That's too much truck for me...

Hmm, dually=too much truck? LOL, those things ARE HUGE!! I know what you mean.

Did you ask your dealer if they could find a truck at another dealer? Thats what we did for my truck, and they ended up getting one themself, but we were looking at printouts for trucks from all over New England!

Good luck man!

I climbed all around a Onyx Black crewcab Thursday (6.0L) but I didn't drive it.  I was very impressed with the room and creature comforts.  This truck stickered at and my price was .  They won't give me anything for my trade though (I expect that).  With out dickering they offered for my trade ('00 LS excab, 4-door, leather, power everything, 3200 miles)

I think there may be room to work a little.  This truck is sweet...  Black with graphite leather.

I think the gasser is the way to go, because I need a crewcab...  and a diesel crewcab is pushing ?K!!!  I'm only going to tow about 500 miles a year on the average,  and I think the 6.0L will do allright.  I'd like the 8.1 and Allison, but that may be too much for now....  Maybe in 3-4 years when I'm ready to trade....

(of course I said I'd keep the '00 for 3-4 years and it's only been 6 months!!!   LOL)

I really kicked around the idea of a HD with the D/A but decided against it for a couple of reasons. The check book only runs so deep and I wanted a new truck and I am building a new house in a 2 years so I went with my second choice. Besides HDs do not come in stepsides. LOL... Best of luck on what ever you decide.

I drove the black crewcab today!!!  It was very nice and was actually quieter than my truck...

He offered me another ? on my trade without me asking him too.  (I don't think anyone is selling these  big buck trucks right now).

He wants my truck and ? out the door!!!  That's alot of cash!!!  I'm still kicking it around...

This truck has 4.10's in the rear.  It'll spin the tires easily.  I'm surprised that it tach's about 500 rpm higher than the 3.73's and the 5.3L in my Silverado at 60 mph.  At 70 it's running about 2400 rpm.
