My 2500 HD web site & pictures

Awesome truck! How do you like that 8.1? The only truck i've been in that had the 8.1 was a 3500, and it really had some power.  I can't imagine what it is like in the 2500HD

Welcome to the site, and i'm glad to have you here!

Welcome to the site.  Thanks for registering, we need more HD owners.

Nice looking truck.  When I seen the picture on your home page, I thought man, that looks like back home.  Then I seen your profile.  What part of WV are you from?  I'm from Summersville.  My parents still live there, but I'm in the Air Force and stationed in South Carolina now.

Thanks for welcoming me to the site, glad to be here,

Mervz, I love the 8.1, awsome power, with my trailer and car in tow and all the supplies I gross at 22,000lb, I made a trip to Florida and back a few weeks ago and the truck performed great.

Hi Tom,

I live near Troy in Gilmer County (Glenville)

Hi Steve,

I was wondering how your truck handled that trailer.  Does it stay pretty stable in windy conditions?  Does it sit level when loaded, or slight lower in the back?  Couldn't quite tell from the pictures.  Your pulling a pretty heavy load there, so I figured you would be the one to ask.

That is a great looking setup you have, and a nice website.

Very nice truck and Welcome to the site. I am very interested in the new HDs. Planning on ordering one in the next 6 months. I am leaning on the side of the Duramax but am interested in the 8.1. I put some very rough figures together today and found out I would have to drive 160,000 miles befor the Duramax would put money back in my pocket. Used rough figures of 14 mpg for 8.1 and 20 for 6.6. I need to get 200,000 miles out of next truck. I am very interested in the MPG that you get. Thanks for the help. John

Sweet truck/trailer/car!!!  How did that big block do I n the mountains in WV and VA?  What kind of mpg's did you get towing down and back??? And have you heard that there are now fairly reliable rumors that transferflow is working on a bigger fuel tank?

Thanks for the comments guys,

Kansas Kid, the truck handled the trailer great, I have a little over 2500 lbs tongue weight and the truck sets level allthough maybe a bit lower in the back than I'd like (but level) I didn't have the air bags on the truck for my first trip so that will help now if I want to raise the back a bit, I have plenty of truck bed trailer clearance, about 10" so that's not a problem for me as many new oweners have posted.

The truck was very stable at 70 + mph ( allthough I try to hold my speed at less than 70 with such a large load) I did not experience the sway when passing big trucks as I did with my tag trailer, this may be due to the fact that my trailer has (6) 10 ply 16" tires and (3) 6000lb capacity axles and the gooseneck of coarse having the weight slightly ahead of the truck axle, I run my truck tires at 80 psi rear and 65 psi front and I keep a very close eye on any tire overheating and the tires ran cool the entire trip.

Stepside,

On my recent trip to Florida I averaged 7 mpg grossing 22,000 lbs, I only have 3000 miles on the truck and 2000 of that is towing but my mileage so far empty has been 12 mpg, this is mixed city, highway and It's hard to keep my foot out of it, love to feel that acceleration :)My 99 2500 with the 6.0 grossing 16,500 towing was getting 7.5 mpg and 13.5 - 14.5 empty so I can't complain about the 8.1.

Shaners,

If you are familar with this area ( and you may find this hard to belive) I was very suprised and impressed but I topped Powell mountain on Rt. 19 in WV and Fancy Gap on I-77 in Va. at 70mph at max. GCVW. the performance down hill was just as impressive, the grade braking is incredable the truck would slow to below 55 mph on both these grades and I would have to accelerate.

I am very interested in the new fuel tank, I also have been hearing these rumors, that is the only complaint about the truck is that I have to stop every 175 miles to refuel when towing.

I too was looking at the Duramax but with the "supply and demand" issue I was able to buy this truck for ? less than the same truck equipped with the Duramax.

I hear alot of people complaining about 12 -14 mpg with the 8.1 but for the power you get I don't think it's bad at all.

Steve, Yesterday I was over checking out your WEB site. I took notice of the hood shield, your truck is the same color as mine, (Forest Green) and the hood shield smoke color matches real well. So I contacted Weather Tech and ordered the same hood shield. Does this mount with Tape or clip fasteners? Also is there clearance between the hood and shield for easy cleaning of the hood?

Thanks much

2k1,

The hood shield comes with inserts that snap into the square holes under your hood and then secures with screws, it's a very quick and simple installation, there is not as much room as I had with the Weather Tech on my 99 but I have no problem getting towels between the hood and shield to clean.
