Windshield Wiper Woes

I've heard about the intermittent wiper problem in the older generation trucks like mine, but here's a new one.

Today coming home from work I noticed that "Low" and "High" were the same speed. The "Intermittent" settings worked fine. Is this a precurser to having the wipers spaz out?

Should I go ahead and replace the wiper motor now?

When mine acted up, on my 1995 K1500, It also wouldn't go into high speed.  Some times they just stop while on low speed. Anyway the new circuit solved all the problems. I think it was ?-50. It's real easy to install. Haven't had any problems sence.

Where is the circuit board located?

I'll dig in the manual, but it's always good to hear tips from someone that has been there.

I think the board is under the hood by the wiper motor somewhere...  I'm having a hard time remembering because it's been a long time...

It's a common problem and I'm sure someone here knows exactly where it is.

Maybe if you repost in Light Duty (it's the same curcuit board), Someone who's replaced it will help you out.

If I remember correctly I thought there was a recall on this for some late 94's thru the 96's.   If your truck is a 95 then you should be able to get it fixed under the recall.  If not then this is what I did to my 94 Sub:

You need a small Torx driver and a soldering iron.

1st- unplug the connector to the wiper motor

2nd- using your small Torx driver, remove the screws holding the black cover on the motor. Remove cover.

3rd- slide circuit board out.

4th- resolder bad solders on the board. You will be able to see the bad solders as they will have cracks around the post that stick through the non-component side. It is usually the solders near the connector end that get bad.

It is easy.

Good Luck,

BIG BLUE

Okay, the windshield wipers have a Safety Recall #98043. Since I owned this truck in 1998, and never recieved a notification of this, I am sure that it was never checked out.

I got the number from Alldata.com, but there is no amplifying data (unless maybe I buy the info from them).

Is GM still responsible for this even though the recall is three years old?

I'm calling Chevy tomorrow, but I'd like to go in there with my guns loaded for bear!

Any ideas?

I would think they would be Friz.  It's not your fault you were not notified.
