HD Question

Recommended Posts

You can order the skid plates, and High flow air filter.  They come with the Z-85 suspension, but as far as I know you can't buy a Z71 package.

You could always remove the cheesy 4x4 decal and replace it with a Z71 decal!!!  Now that would turn some heads!!!

Nope,Z71s are on the light duty frame and componants, far from the HD specs.  Lighter axle, tranny, and load specs, not to mention smaller motors.  About the only HD thing a Z71 adds is the skid plates.

I don't see a market for HDs with a Z71 package.  Who uses a 2500HD or 3500 for recreation?  I sure can't think of any that do (I do have some fun with ours when the opportunity presents itself though).

I probably would.

Sure, a few people do, but I bet the market share that does is very very small.  HD trucks are made for work and used for work, end of story.  Half tons are used primarily for transportation and recreation, hence why a Z71 package is offered there.

Jpshostr,

Now you know why GM came out with the 1500HD.  People like the Crew Cab short box but don't really "need" a 3/4 ton HD truck.  So, GM puts a 1500HD name badge on an old 2500 light duty and people say "now that's not so bad, I can have a cool 1/2 ton Crew Cab and play around on the weekends with it" going from places like Home Depot and Lowe's to buy 4 or 5 2x4's for weekend projects.  Put a different name on a truck and people will believe anything!

As for people buying a Heavy Duty p/u for serious work and hauling, guess again.  Went through the dealer parking lot today.  Counted 6 1500HD's and a mix of probably 30 or 40 2500HD's and 3500's.  These are not sitting there for contractors to buy, it's folks that think they need one and don't mind spend ?k for it ;)

LOL,

Nope, only om half tons. I did see a crew cad dually one time though, with Z71 decals on the dually fenders. I have a 2500HD and use it as a daily driver, but need it pull trailers and farmin. I play with it too, its not just an on road truck.

Maybe that's true in many areas, but where I live, there are at least as many HDs being used as daily drivers and for recreation as LDs.  Several things contribute to this phenomenon:

*Diesels are only available in HD models.  People like the better mileage and the sound.

*Bigger and more powerful gas engines are available in them.  A lot of people like and want big blocks.

*They're more "macho" so people want them.  The "poser" factor in action.

*They'll tow bigger boats, and carry campers.

*HDs are known to use stronger, longer lasting components, and many people like that, even if they're not going to use the truck as a work truck.  I fall into this category.

seen a 2001 silverado 2500 saturday with z71 stickers on the back kinda made me think the z71 package is not a option on the 2500 trucks must be the owner decided to put the z71 stickers on it instead of the ugly looking 4x4 stickers chevy puts on the trucks. :)

I think the Z-71 package is available on the 2500, but not the 2500HD and 3500.
