Is this a good idea/has it been done before

Recommended Posts

So I was taking a shower, that and the toilet being every mans true ephinany spot, and got to thinking, has anyone ever set up a four wheel independant suspension on a K platform? What would be its benefits and drawbacks, etc?

I know garage tinkerers are capable of pretty much anything. I was following the conversion of a FWD Integra to a Mid Engine RWD integra. Also following the construction of a turbo charger converted to a jet being put on a motorcycle.

Anywho, I figure a properly setup FWIS must hold something over its live axle counterparts. There must be a reason AM General uses it on the HMMWV besides simple ride comfort and "handling."

The way I would do it(given the money and another vehicle to use, as well as the proper tools, so sometime 30 years from now if its not standard on all full size trucks) would be to take the front clip from another K1500(in my case) and basically shove it in the back. It appears, however, that the rear diff is MUCH more beafy than the front diff, so than I thought what about a setup similar to what is in the corvettes.

Anyway, I had a few questions for the "off road experts"

1. What would be the benefits and draw backs?

2. Has this been done?

3. What would you use for the "new" rear end?

Thanks,

Mike
