after market wheels and tires

Recommended Posts

ok, i tried a search but couldn't find what i need...

i suddenly need a new set of tires - 2" slice in the sidewall will do that! i was told by a tire supplier that i couldn't put 285-75-16 MTZs on after market wheels. has anyone had good success with this ('01 silverado z-71)? what kind of offset do i need?

the deal is that i am trying to get a little more ground clearance (hung up the frame this weekend, too) and a nice look to boot. the 285 only gives me an extra inch (iirc) but it might help and the extra inch in width might have helped in the mud hole, too.

any help would be appreciated.

i don't have any aftermarket wheels yet - i was looking at getting the mickey thompson classic II.

they didn't say why it wouldn't work, but i assume it's because the factory wheel is 7" and the M/T is 8" so it might make the width too much???

If you have factory rims then thay are 16 x 6.5, the MTC will fit fine but "do not run them with low air psi". Stay above 35 or more or you will run into the tire debeading off the rim. I've got BF Goodwrench M/T 305/70/R16 on factory rims 16x6.5 I keep them at 50 psi and no problems

I am new to the lifted world (all my previous vehicles were lowered), and i just got a 2004 sierra ext, and i would like to go up in the air instead of down to the ground.

I want to get bigger tires and possibly wheels, but i dont want to do any lifting.. so my question is, what is the biggest and best looking tire setup i can get without actually having to lift my truck? thanks!
