Bigger tires with "Leveling kit" question.

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I stopped at a shop in Fishers, IN & looked at an '04 Silverado HD crew cab they had on the lot that they did some work on for a dealership in town. The tires were 325/60/18 & they said the only thing they did to get them to fit was added a leveling kit (aftermarket torsion bar keys). This truck is a 2500 & mine is a 1500 HD crew cab. I am seriously thinking about doing it & using the same tires. Now my question is this. How do you all feel about changing keys to raise it up a little? Good, bad?

Thanks,

Scot

note that the 2500HD sits about 2" higher on the frame than the 1500HD from the factory. Also notice they did trim the front valance a bit in front of the tire (or someone did). Anyway, those tires are about 1/2" taller and 1-1/2" wider than say a 285/75R16 that many people run by cranking torsion bars. With the added width you may run into more rubbing issues during full lock turning. By the way, what wheels are you running? The wheels on that truck are Diamo 17 Karat 18x10's which have a 5" offset. IMO you will need 9-10 inch rims to run those tires and make sure your offset is such to keep the tires pushed out so they won't rub on the suspension. Anyway...sorry to ramble.

cunuck - I didn't ask about the grill, but I think I have seen them in the Summit racing catalog.

03HD - what is different between the 1500 & 2500 suspension that would make the 2500 a few inches higher? Can I get the 1500 to that height easily? My guess is the hard parts are the same, like the upper & lower control arms, & knuckle. If I use the same keys that they have on the pictured truck, couldn't I get it the same height?

Thanks,

Scot
