Operating the 4WD with a Envoy/Trailblazer?

I'm renting a Trailblazer or Envoy for a trip tomorrow. Most of the travel will be on the highway (paved), but some will be on gravel roads.

 

I've never driven 4WD before, and I understand you have to be careful with the 4WD mode you operate the truck in, on different road types.

 

Can anyone out there give me a fast, easy lesson on how to put the truck in the proper 4WD mode for this trip on mixed surfaces from pavement to gravel?

 

I tried on another forum, but after no answers in two days or so, I thought I should of posted on this forum.

Whenever you leave the hard road surface you can put it in 4HI and keep on driving. If you are going to be in deep mud you will want to go into 4-LO. You could put in in Auto and drive it on all surfaces and the computer will engage the 4WD when it detects slippage. This will hurt you fuel economy though.

 

Best thing to do is as you detect your losing traction to put it in 4HI until you get to a better road surface.
