20014x4 front drive axel

When should the front drive shaft turn on a 2001 chev ext cab with push button & auto 4wd options? mine turns continouslyand can not be held stationary in forward or reverse when the truck is in 2hi is this normal or where should I start looking for problems?

If it's truly in 2 High then the front driveshaft should be free. The half-shafts are permanently connected so they'll still turn with the front wheels. But the driveshaft should be free because the motor in the front diff. disconnects the driveshaft there and the t-case disconnects it on the other end. If it's in automatic 4WD then it could be a different story.

Sounds like your front axle disconnect has gone bad, common problem.
