I own a 1997 S-10 with a 2.2 Liter 4 cylinder engine. I am thinking about getting dual exhaust put on it. Does anyone out there have 4 cylinder engine vehicle with dual exhaust? If anyone does, what does it sound like? Much oblige for suggestions or comments.

Complete with fart can? $cylinder are to be seen not heard, well not even seen, but you get the point. My opinion no 4 popper sounds good with dual exhaust, only some 6 cylinders do, and dual exhaust was made for V-8's... But then again if you want people to think "Who tha F*** just drove a lawnmower past me on the freeway?!" GO FOR IT!

I'm sucha bad toad.

A friend of mine put dual exhaust on his '00 S-10 and he had to relocate his spare tire from under the bed to inside the cab. He could have also put it in the bed, but he never uses the rear part of his cab, so thats where he put the tire.

Ive heard a few 4-banger trucks with dual exhaust setups, and they sound like riced-out Hondas. I wouldnt do it.

You wont gain any performance with duals, nor will you gain MPG. Now, if you have a V6 or V8 and went with headers and true duals you would see an increase, but the 4-banger only has one exhaust manifold, so dual tailpipes really dont do anything to increase the flow.

I say pass on it and save you money for something else.

Your friend should have gone to a different muffler shop. One that has more than three weeks of experience. I have dual exhaust and I kept my 31" spare and a class III hitch.

In my opinion, dual exhaust just doesn't fit on the S-10. I just bought a 19 in muffler and cat off ebay (ebay is the best and cheapest place to buy mufflers and cats) and had an exhaust shop install. The Magnaflow is perfect and does pur a little.

google flo-pro, go to dealer locator and they will tell you what you need for the 4 banger. many forums and many people have told me that flo-pro are the best for gm 4.3L and 4 bangers because of the extra engineering without the bloted price. some midas and meineke will install on special order, but they are expensive. i would like to try one, but i just put on a flowmaster cat-bask straight out the back just 4 months ago and it ain't much better than the giant pressure cooker from stock(4.3L)

don't worry about the sound, and in my opinion, don't put dual exhaust on a 4 banger, it does absolutely nothing for performance or milage, unless you've decided to be a pose'r and then just stick a big K-mart fart can on it and tick off old people. then maybe with the extra money you save, you can buy the fake plastic spinner hub-caps on it too. i'm being sarcastic, not dis'n. i just thing duals on a 4 banger look stupid, and sound like a chain saw.

good luck, and get 'er done!!

:D:cheers:

I Would choose Magnaflow. Used have Flow and didn't last to long. Magnaflow last longer and has a better sound in my opinion!

I had duals put on my 2002 4.3 ZQ8 S-10. Mine was a 6 so I can't comment on the sound. I loved how mine looked and sounded. I also didn't have to move the spare or had any problems with the pipes interfearing with the spare.

Here's some pics from back in 2002 after it was installed
