balance tires with valve caps on or off?

Does it make a difference if tires are balanced with the valve caps off? Someone told me that if the tires are balanced with the caps off, the balance will change when one puts them on. I don't see how this would affect the balance as it would be so small.

 

When I'm talking valve caps I'm referring to the chrome looking ones by Milton, or ones that are similiar in style. These weigh more than the standard black plastic cap.

if they weigh more it could be helpfull to balance with them on...but I really don't lnow if they make that much of a difference

Hold a 1/4 oz wheel weight in one hand, and the valve cap in the other hand. Unless the valve cap is made of depleted uranium, it'll be no contest.

maybe Ford/Firestone should have used that excuse when the Exploder was turning into sharpenal on the highways.

on or off will not effect balance. I use to work at Sears installing tires. Sometimes people came in with heavy caps that looked like dice, or other objects, that would effect the balence.
