The 350 is always a good engine to swap. It all depends what you want with it. You can always go with it bone stock and slowly mod it, if cash is tight. If not for 12K forget the 572..id go with a good used truck.Just Me....good luck :chevy:

If you want to spend some money get an aluminum block 350 out of a vette.  I'm not sure what the engine series number is.

Corvette motors..

91 - L98 (250 hp)

90-95 ZR-1 - LT5 5.7 DOHC (375-405hp), probably the most ahead of its time engine ever put in a Chevy. Produced by Mercury Marine in Stillwater, OK and designed by Graham Behan and Geoff Jeal of Lotus Motors.

92-96(auto) - LT1 (300 hp)

96 (6-speed) - LT4 (rated at 330, more like 350)

97-05 - LS1 (350 hp, very strong), LS6 (375-405hp in ZO6)

Current - LS2 (6.0, 400hp) LS7 (7.4, 500hp)

LT1s and early LS1s are fairly obtainable. I'd look for an 02 or newer LS1 which was equiped with the same manifold from the LS6 along with a stronger cam. 2001 LS1s are some of the best built engines in the world.

So you have a 68? In my meaningless opinion I would go with a 350 crate motor that does not require fuel injection and massive electronics to make it run correctly. After all this is a 68 and your lucky if it has seatbelts never the less any computer control. I think the small block would probally mate up better with your existing transmission. Remember also that it is a 68 and being 37 years old the frame has metal fatique and putting any significant torque would probally twist it so be careful. Now if money wasn't an issue I would go either a 502 or 572 BB with a nice stout tranny and a new rear end and alot of new frame bracing. Well any which way you go, Good Luck in the endevor.

seems like almost everbody that builds something puts a sbc, very good reliable motors, but in my opinion, big blocks are the only way to go, way more impressive when you pop the hood, and stomp the gas! 396/402, 427, 454, 502, 572.

:bs: Infinite knowledge... We're not worthy

lol, thanks. I've been interested in Corvettes my whole life.

Personally..I'd go with something modern. LS1 drivetrains are reletivly easy to come by. Maybe find a 98-99 Z28 with decent mileage and pull the drivetrain.

The ZF 6-speed is one of the strongest tranny's in the world, and the LS1 really speaks for it self. Not to mention you get serious performance AND 30 mpg.

I would love to put a ZF 6 speed into my truck. The only problem i know of is they have a relatively loud gear rollover noise. Other than that they are pretty much bullet proof. I have a NV4500 right now, thats bullet proof enough for me right now

I agree with Mikey. You will never get the fuel efficiency out of an old carburatored engine you would get out of a modern engine with injection. Even if you went with one of the first shower head injection motors from the late 80's I think it would be better.

Looking on Ebay there are a ton of 5.3 silverado motors on there. Just put a DMAX in it and feel the power. You have to admit it would make a very unique truck.....hahahahahah

Definatly. I always wanted to find a 67' Chevy II and go with that LS1 Corvette drivetrain with a gear set super tall. Maybe like 3.18 or something. Get fabulous gas mileage, and make a great crusier.

There are lots of good online sources around when it comes to top quality GMC and GM parts like the engine type you mentioned. Just make sure that you choose the right store. Beware of fake auto parts that can endanger your car's over-all performance.
