any easy,effective performance mods for 4300 V6

Recommended Posts

I have a '97 Astro, which I bought new, use a tow vehicle, grocery getter, transport the family all over the place, etc. It's been a very, good utility vehicle, all these years, and all these miles.

I know it's a heavy beast, and was designed as a workhorse, not a sport's job, but any ideas on how to give it a bit more performance?

There is a "trick" you can do with your throttle body. To see if this will work, look at the butterfly and see if it has two rivets in it. If it does, than it has the air flow restrictor in it. Remove the throttle body from the car and drill out the two rivets and remove the restrictor plate. Next, clean the inside of the throttle body real good and put two squeeze rivets in the holes where the factory ones were. If you don't plug those holes, it won't idle right. Once you've put the new rivets in, make sure they are good and secure and reinstall the throttle body. Now when you get on the gas, you'll get a ton more air down the intake. I did this to my 2000 blazer with the 4300 V6 and it was a kick in the pants.
